Way back in October, I hired a family friend to finish my attic into 2 rooms. He was sick off an on all winter, so the project took a lot longer then I had ever dreamed it would. It was finished last month and my daughter and I just got the painting done, as I have company coming next week for a visit. But every time I go upstairs, I smell this funky smell. I had a rat move in awhile ago, but I won the battle of housing with it, so I thought maybe it died up stairs. Then today, I figured out what it was. The vent pipe for the toilet downstairs run up into one of the rooms upstairs. The guys said 'not a problem', I'll cut the pipe down, and run it out the side of the house'. Great. Because of the floor studs, he couldn't cut it low enough, so we decided to build a bunk bed over the top, so that it would be covered. Cool. However, with investigation. The pipe leads no where and so it is venting under the bunk bed platform and stinking up the place! I couldn't believe it. Normally I would call the guy and tell him to fix it properly, but he just had major heart surgery and is out of the loop for weeks. I feel like he took advantage of me, big time, and now I have to get in there and figure out a way to vent it out so the smell will go away. (note to self- never hire this guy again, for anything!)

I think you should have a glass of wine and some chocolate to celebrate. It is good that your dad was able to come over and fix it for you. It is sad when someone that we trust let's us down just forgive him and move on. Holding the anger only hurts you.

My Dad came over today and helped me get the situation taken care off. He is wonderful. But it did annoy me to think that my 77 year old dad was the one crawling around the attic crawl space doing something that should have already been done, by someone much younger. But, it is done, I am glad and now my house doesn't smell like a sewer!

Thanks girls, I talked with my BIL tonight, and I think we have a solution. I shall tackle it tomorrow. I do appreciate the prayers, as I am learning how to be my own handyman. One of those times I am really missing my hubby!

By the way, Welcome Nikki!!

If I may,
I think there are two possible solutions and I would consider them soon so your stress eases up.
You can have the man you hired finish the job properly upon his return to work and finish this! Or start on your journey to find someone who will fix it and get it done! You can do it yourself only does it involve getting on the roof with your handy power tools??
Make a decision soon and so you can let it not annoy you.
Goodluck. Home projects are so tedious!
Have a chocolate for me.

I would head to the local hardware store and ask how to fix and get to it. Maybe his heart condition he has clouded his judgement in making good decisions for you. Good luck you can handle it.

Give thanks to yourself everyday for all the wonderful things you do!

I went up to see about fixing it. I couldn't find the chuck to loosen the bit on the drill to remove some plywood. Searched everywhere. Got more frustrated, hardware store was closed, so I poured a glass of wine, and ate chocolate chex mix. Tomorrow's a new day.

Julia:
Sorry to hear that that happened to you. I hope you find a way to vent the pipe to the outside.

OH geez. Sorry to hear that. I know how you feel, it's like you want to be angry with someone. But in this case that someone's off limits since you aren't a soulless creature. Like Diane said, just try to shake it off.

I would also be annoyed. But shake it off and do the best you can or it will upset you more. My husband went to put a roof on my place. I didn't want it I figured the one that was on it it could last a year or 5. But he assured me I needed it. So I said OK and I paided for all the supplies. Then when the kids in their 20's showed up to help be thought they knew what they were doing. They didn't they just wanted to help. He wasn't watching them and the next rain The paint was hanging from the ceiling over my bed. I figured it would do no good to be upset so I hired the contractor who was putting my neighbors roof on to put mine on. That happened 8 years ago. 4 years later I married him.

Hope all your days are Sunnydays.
