Posted - May 17 2010 : 8:47:17 PM *Disclaimer* This isn't a crying-type story, just a sad one!
A pair of pants have finally bit the dust. I've only had them for several years and yesterday, when I pulled them up, they ripped big time on the leg. That's how worn they were.
The second sadness is that one of my good work shirts has a rip in it and it getting threadbare but I have kept wearing it. The rip is in a seam around a pocket but if someone were to look too closely, they could see my bra...and that one ain't happenin'.
I thought about hand sewing them up but hubby is getting kind of mandatory about me wearing some newer clothes on our big rig. They are not quite to 'trash' territory but getting close.
For some dumb reason, I'm attached to them, kinda sad to toss them in the trashcan after all these years (yes, YEARS). After they've stood me in good stead, thru thick and thin...now just in the trash.
Oh, well, I'll just have to suck it up and throw them away. There are other work pants/shirts that are getting close to trashcan status. I'm going to have to spring for new clothes that are stiff and not comfortable, even straight out of the dryer. Not looking forward to that one bit.
Truly an end of an era.

Posted - May 18 2010 : 05:19:15 AM I feel yuor pain!
Once had a pair of LL Bean cargo shorts. Wore them so thin that one day I went to wipe my hands on the leg part and they shredded like paper. I was so sad and have yet to find anyting like them and not near as comfortable
I'm working on a current pair of Lee Riders. Have had these for well in excess of 10 years. They are ultra ripped and super breezy. I have taken squares of other fabrics and sewn these in so at least they are a little more decent. These are my gardening shorts and I swear I'll keep wearing them 'till there's nothing left but the patches.
Rest in pieces.

Posted - May 18 2010 : 04:56:38 AM I know exactly how you feel!! I too have jeans and work shirts that are years old. . . and about ready to be retired. How about turning them into a rag rug instead of sending them to the trash?? At least they will still have a use
