Posted - May 14 2010 : 12:00:42 PM I was struck by her trip upstairs to let the flies out. That is a little detail that lets you see how it was to live with windows open, no air-conditioning, and screen doors opening all the time on a farm. I do remember in my grandma's house how the flies would always end up upstairs and against the screens buzzing around. Cool, Nancy! Are there more entires you can share?

Posted - May 14 2010 : 05:14:01 AM Thank you - I have been in the process of deciding to stop journaling if I only will destroy them. You are right - the journals are just like me..... it should be no surprise. Some times life is ugly and hard. There are pages of prayer woven through them too. Kris

Posted - May 13 2010 : 6:52:11 PM Kris, I have written in journels for as long as I could write, I have 82 filled up and 83 started. I write something in them everyday, no matter what, and I too write the good, the bad and the ugly, but its life. I don't think it would hurt anyone, cause they know thats how I am. They are all kept in a cedar chest, just for them, and my children will get them when I pass.

Posted - May 13 2010 : 6:21:10 PM Nancy Jo, those excerpts sound a lot like the ones my grandma wrote in her diaries. I got a copy when my aunt passed away. It is wonderful because I was only 6 when my grandma passed away and so I have gotten to know her through these.

Posted - May 13 2010 : 3:13:47 PM You could have them put into a time capsule to be opened at a future date . . . like in 100 years. . . then it would not be hurtful to someone in the present, yet it will preserve what all of us ache for. . something from a loved one in the past!

Posted - May 13 2010 : 12:10:19 PM I have a question: I have been journaling for years - I don't just talk about the weather and normal events. I talk about the nitty gritty of life - some of it isn't so fun and might be hurtful to people. Its all real stuff and I am honest and real. Here is the question: Do I destroy them or leave to my family after I am gone??? Some people say, if they would hurt someone - burn them. Others say, oh, man, to be able to read a journal from a great or grand great mother. I don't know yet what to do. Kris
