Posted - May 08 2010 : 7:05:22 PM I just wanted to cry when she reached over her desk to shake my hand...that's me in a nutshell---My "new" boss gave me a big old hug before I left her office.
I reached a point where I actually said to my husband "I am not going to look for a job any longer, my job will have to find me." You are right about the feeling of desperation. I am no spring chicken and the thought of being the new girl once again well... I feel very lucky. Michigan has been hit pretty hard as well as most of the country.
I am sorry to hear that you were laid off. There are so many stories out there just like ours Betty! My dear aunt ended up retiring early or risk being fired at will which is legal in Michigan. She chose retirement and now she is also new to social security. She worked for her company a very long time. It is sad that it came down to that. Thank you Betty!
Thank you ladies for all the nice thoughts and comments---My cup runneth over!

Posted - May 08 2010 : 6:06:44 PM Melody, I was laid off for a year before succumbing to Social Security. I know the feeling of desperation of not having an income. I am so pleased to hear that you are fully (though part-time) employed. Good for you!

Posted - May 07 2010 : 07:05:18 AM Thank you ladies! I am so excited-and relieved.
I have known the owner of the auction company for many, many years and after dropping a hint at her last auction that I would be very interested in working with her, I received a call from her office girl inviting me to an interview. I was hired before the interview ended. I know this is going to be rewarding and very interesting. What a complete turnaround; I have always worked in an office setting so this is going to be different!

Posted - May 06 2010 : 3:10:35 PM I'm in!
I start next Thursday-I will be shadowing the cashier and doing some "ring" work, but my boss will be gearing me more to the business aspect of the auction company. I am very excited to finally have some sorely needed income coming in even though I will be part time which is perfectly fine by me. This is going to be very interesting!
Thank you girls for the prayers and good thoughts.
Whew! Employed again!
