An elderly neighbor of mine called me this morn in tears. She had gotten an advertisment in the mail awhile back regarding cantalope. The ad stated they were the best in the country and they would be delivered to your home via the USPS. The ad stated the first delivery was for $3.00, and after that, it would be the regular price of $9.00. So Mary goes ahead and orders, thinking why not. If she didn't like them she wouldn't order anymore. She gets them in this morns mail, opens the statement on the lid, and with shipping and handeling it comes to , are you ready, now there's 3 cantalopes in the box, $29.76. She has already allowed them to bill her credit card upon shipping, so these 3 cantalopes have cost her just under $10.00 dollars each. I call the company and they tell me that it states, $3.00 plus shipping and handeling, I said you are thiefs and the women hangs up on me, so then i call her credit card company and they say, "buyer beware", we are warning people all the time, but she signed the original statement, promise ing to pay, so theres nothing we can do.

It might be elder abuse in our eyes, but its not on the laws side, the company would not of known my neighbors age.

I would contact your States Attorney! Makes me mad that the bank/credit card company won't do something! Our news reports on these scams quite often and also lets us know that the States Attorney is working with the person being scammed. Please contact them to see if they can do something. This is elder abuse on the companies side.

I did report this to the BBB, but unfortunatly, the company did nothing illegal. It makes me sick that these companys can and will do this to people knowing that their practices are moraly wrong. They are in it for the almighty buck, PERIOD. I am giving you all the name of the company, but please do not use my name or my neighbors, i don't want to have to deal with these people at all, cause it could send me to jail, lol. The company is "Red Coopers".

That is so sad. I feel bad for the lady. People who run their business this way should be ashamed. I agree with the others get the name circulating of the business and report it to the BBB.

And what's the old syaing??

If it's too good to be true it probaly is??

I can't stand it when older folks are constantly being scammed and ripped off.

There are some slick, sleezy people out there

That is terrible!!

But I always feel that if something seems too good to be true, it must be! Always, always get the full price first. If they won't give it, then take your bidness elsewhere!!

Poor lady, I feel for her!!

That is horrible! I file claims at a bank all day long for people who have been scammed one way or another. It makes me sad and furious at the same time. I agree! Tell us the company name and let's get the word out there. Also I would suggest she either cancels that credit card or ask her company to change her account number so the fraud can't continue.

That is so typical and probably happens a whole lot more than people admit.

Poor lady.

Lousy company....it's all very legal, but highly immoral.

Makes me sick how some people live to rip other people off.

Sorry--- Done venting now!!

That's awful! I would follow Michelle's advice and report the incident to the BBB.

I would like to know that company's name so we can warn others on facebook, ect. I would like to know if they are members of the BBB? It only takes 1 negative online post circulating to ruin a company that needs to be exposed!

It's all good!
