What is it about that cotton nightgown that just makes me so happy and makes DH so unhappy? You know the one I'm talking about. The one that you're so thrilled to pull out of the warm weather clothes box every year. The one that's the lightest, softest white cotton and can probably hide several small children inside it, but is oh so comfy...
*Sighs* I LOVE this nightgown. To me, it says "summer" and "comfort". To Dh it says, "frumpy old housewife" or something. I just don't get it. What's so unsexy about that cotton nightgown? I mean, were the pioneer men turned off by their wives who wore that cotton nightgown? I hardly think so. I think they found it attractive somehow. I think the sight of their sunkissed, hardworking wife in that white cotton gown blowing in the summer night breeze maybe made them blush and feel all warm and fuzzy inside. But not my guy. No, the white cotton tent will not do for him. LOL....oh well. Not all nights are for him. On MY nights I will wear that cotton nightgown and enjoy every second of it!

I used to sleep in the buff until our daughter came along... she's 14 now and rarely wakes me up in the middle of the night but I think it's the Mom in me that wants something covering me in case I need to get up fast. My DH can sleep through most anything! I am the one that gets up to investigate noises and let the dog out and I don't want to be looking for clothes to put on in the dark! I have never really liked robes. I love long gowns, but I get tangled up in them, so I usually wear oversized t-shirts, the older and thinner the better! He doesn't really care as long as I snuggle with him and let him warm his feet on my legs!

I had one... that was so thread bare... so I repurposed the bottom of it with the ruffles and made a sewing machine cover for my machine! I have tons of muslin... think I shall make me a new "That Cotton Nightgown"!

Sitting here typing in my white cotton nightgown. Hubby doesn't care what I wear as long as I cuddle up.

Do what you love, love what you do.

I've never been much for gowns (they usually end up strangling me the way I sleep!) but I guess my "white cotton gown" (or my husband's Waterloo) is my soft cotton tee paired with the myriad of soft cotton striped pj pants. They are just where I want them now...washed so much they're practically see through and feel like silk!!! Have to use them as dust rags, soon enough.

I can't say much about my dh, though...he likes it when I wear a hockey jersey!!!!

Hey Beth I put my cold feet, hands and back side on my dh. He always asks how do you stay so cold all the time. I just tell him so he can warm me up. He does. Lilly

My DH doesn't care what I wear. He says it's not the nightie/clothes that he's interested in. It's the person inside it that counts.

He's my sweetie :-)

I have two of those, one pink and one blue. One has a big tear it is so thin, so I brought it down to the sewing room and I will repair the tear. My husband doesn't say anything, but it wouldn't matter. I just LOVE LOVE LOVE my big cotton nightgown, and I don't care what anyone says. It is like wearing nothing at all, but still having coverage!!!!!

I have several white cotton nightgowns. My DH doesn't much care, the first time he bought me lingerie it was a pair of flannel pajamas with feet because he was tired of my cold feet touching him at night. He figures the white nightgowns are a step up from the flannel pajamas. LOL

You Go Girl!
My "That" night gown is an oversized shirt and a pair of 2xs too big sweat pants...I feel cutesy like a college chick the night before she gets to go home. Hubby says I look like something fell off a dumptruck! lol But eh, he doesn't realize the cozier I feel, the more appealing he is.

That's so funny! You expressed my sentiments (as well as Hubby's) on the topic of white cotton nightgowns exactly! It must be a universal thing. I love 'em. He hates 'em.
