Well, I guess pretty much all of you girls know I'm an OTR truck driver and hubby and I have been renting a large house in the middle of a huge ranch for about a year now.

We decided that if we are ever going to get our place, we have to bite the bullet, save money and just plain do it.

So, we are giving up our house, buying yet another 5th wheel and are looking at some land to put it on.

We are putting everything in storage for the time being. The 5th wheel (if the sale goes through) will sit at a friend's place for the time being. Our house is too big to leave by itself for as long as we are gone, the grass gets too high and the flowers aren't watered and mice want to take over, etc., so we're giving it up.

We found a website that we can order a log cabin and it has a worksheet thing to add/subtract features. I have it all worked out for that day. Can't save money if we are spending it on rent on a house we don't use that much.

Hubby and I want a place totally paid for by the time he retires but we don't want fancy or big. Just out in the country, away from people with my horses and dogs. (I'm not too sociable in real life which is why I love this board, I can talk when I want and pipe down when I want!!) The land is about 15 miles from a small town and hubby could go there to shoot the bull with the other geezers at the cafe while I'm at home riding or gardening or cooking.

That's the plan. We flat decided to turn our life around and DO IT. No warning to anyone, except the notice on the house. Wev'e already paid the last month's rent when we first rented so we're good there. Have a huge storage room ready. Our lives had someone taken a tack that we weren't liking, going a way we never meant to go but somehow, there we were. Lost sight of our goal. So, after some serious talking, we are doing a 180 and feel SOOOOOO much better.

I thought hubby really, really liked our house and he thought I was besotted with it and come to find out, neither of us really wanted it!! Hello???? It's a nice place but our innermost beings weren't jibing with it and we were starting to feel pretty uncomforatble but sticking with it because we thought the other one wanted to be here!!

So, a good couple of honest from the heart talks and we're back on track!!

I'll keep everyone updated as we go along!

I am sending you lots of good wishes, prayers, cheering and screaming I'm proud of you! I am so glad you're doin what you want not followin the status quo. I am 'buckin the system' in my neighborhood a little. My perfect green lawn now has a huge brown garden in it with compost bins and a half built chicken coop. The neighbors think I'm crazy and I'm lovin life. Chase your dreams girl! Eventually they'll get tired and slow down enough you can catch them!

Good for you for taking the plunge - I think that thinking about doing things is the hardest part, once you are actually in there you just do it. And even being in a situation that is maybe less than ideal is not so bad when you think about the reward at the end. Good luck with everything and keep us posted!!

Congratulations Winona, it isn't easy to take a big jump, but the results will be so worth it. I am so happy for you and I hope everything goes smooth as silk for you and your husband.

Sounds great, Winona! Doesn't it always feel great when you and the significant other are on the same page? Good luck with saving! Sometimes that can be the hardest part!

Winona, I think it's great that you all communicated and decided what was best for you both. That log cabin idea sounds wonderful and I wish you all the best! Way to go!

Good for you, Winona!!! I am very impressed with your farmgirl attitude. I know with thinking like this ya'll will have your land in no time and a house built soon after. So hang in there and it will happen!

You go girl!! Aren't those good heart to heart talks great? Its so helpful to know where the each other stands, and if that means that the house has to go because the house wasn't what you wanted in the first place, then by all means the house should go! The two of you know what's best for the both of you, so don't let anyone tell you it won't work. Us farmgirls will be here to cheer for you along the way. I think what you're doing is great, and I hope in a couple years I can post about us having done the same thing!! Good luck!!

A farmgirl's gotta do what a farmgirl's gotta do---I say GO FOR IT!!! A house that you really don't like can tie you down, both physically and emotionally. You know what's best for you so I say pursue your dream.HOpe you get that log cabin built in the future--I'm doing my best to give my house a rustic look--I have curtains made from burlap and lots of old furniture. I'd like to live in a log cabin style home but you don't see too many around here. Someday I'll move to the country, but for now, it's all I can do to stay afloat in this economy. But I say go for your dreams--and if this is the right time, then just do it.
