We had our 1st soap show of the season and it was a gynormous bust. We get to our destination an hour and a half away from where we live only to discover that I forgot our money box and my clipboard...which had my flyers, business cards and item labels...My DH unloaded all of our tables and stacks of soap, my linen, etc. and headed all the way back home to get our money. We didn't even clear enough to cover the cost of our booth---- plus the added expense of putting more gas in our van....This was not a good 1st show of the season-

Sigh....I think I am in dire need of a pint.....of Moose-Tracks
Ice-Cream!

Melody,

Don't give up. Your booth sounded beautiful and by the other posts your soaps are fabulous!

Enjoy the ice cream. Forget this show and move onto the next!

Oh Melody! I agree, it is early in the season... I think your booth sounded absolutely gorgeous! I'm sure once the season really gets going, there will be more shoppers out there who will enjoy all the effort you put into your booth and your wonderful soaps!

Moose Tracks is THE best!

Diane, thanks for getting 'High Hopes' in my head... *sigh* I love Frank Sinatra. I'm not sure if he was the original singer of that song, but I have the movie where he sings it, "A Hole in the Head"

Hang in there, Melody! I'm sure the next show will be better.
I think some extra chocolate syrup on that ice cream will help a little too. Works for me.

Sounds like you set up a beautiful booth, just hang in there. What makes that ant move that rubber tree plant? He's got high hopes, high hopes, high in the sky, apple pie hopes. I had a similar experience. I paid $600 to get into "the" show and invested a lot of time and money into inventory (I had a recycled painted furniture studio). I had a friend that lent me a trailer, which later was damaged at the show, and set up only to find out I wasn't listed in the brochure and they stuck me in the far end, etc... Total bust, the show was right after the Iraq war started and peoople were not spending money. I was just totally bummed. Closed my studio shortly after mostly due to my Rheumatoid Arthritis, but that show didn't help any. Hang in there, never give up. My best to you.

It's early in the season - I am sure your next show will be better. Perhaps closer to a holiday like Mother's day? I know you will do better next time. Enjoy the ice cream.

Blessings, Sheri

I'm sorry you had a rough day Melody. I agree with Diana, I love your soaps especially the Bergamot. I just wish I could afford to place an order with you. I will be praying for success for your next show (and those following)

I just love you guys!!

I feel much better knowing that my girls are so sweet they will respond to such a sad sack like me....Bless you!

I really worked hard on this first show, pressing my linens and having my tables look crisp and white with vintage linens and my bright quilt.... reminding me of a cottagy sea scape complete with sea glass, shells bundles of lavender and my antique pitcher and bowl---I present a lovely table if I do say so myself and then....No money coming in and sitting hour after hour with an occasional customer stopping by to "sniff" my soap and MOOOOOVE on to the next booth.

Sorry, I am ashamed of myself....it's tough out there in the world and I am complaining cause no one was buying. We cleared the cost of the table and covered the money that we had for change in the money box---we didn't cover the gas it took to get down there though....Oh well.

Keep your fingers crossed for our next show. We need the money! I hate being unemployed-----Maybe I better ask my DH to pick up two pints...what the heck!!

Thank you again dear girlfriends!!

Oh Melody I'm so sorry that your day didn't go as planned. If I was closer I'd come over and share some of that ice cream with you. We'll pray for a more successful show next time.

Blessings, Brenda
