My sewing machine has been "broken" for some time now! I've put off taking it to get fixed for too long!
One of the ladies at our church is quite the seamstress. She's taken my oldest to her home and taught her to sew doll clothes & her own costumes. Well, now we're going to start sewing crib sheets for a crisis pregnancy center. My lady friend told me to bring my sewing machine over and she'll take a look at it for me. I was so excited!
Yesterday I hauled it over. Well, I forgot the book. Boo hoo! She said she'd take a look anyway. We plugged it in, she fiddled for about 30 seconds AND FOUND THE PROBLEM!

I'm so embarrassed!
That little thing on the top where you fill your bobbin? It was switched over for bobbin filling! That's why my needle wouldn't go down and I couldn't sew!  I'm good to go now. Easy fix - I'm happy. We laughed & laughed. She did say (and I agree) you do need to know your machine - the sounds and the feel of it. I need to sew more often! Good reason to now!

Deb, That was so funny, something I could see my self doing.
Kerrianne, About 2 years after my son started driving he informed me that I had lied to him. I said I never lied. He said "Mom you can drive a car without the seat belt on." I said not my car and it better not be your car either. Then he thanked me for always making them wear the seatbelt. He is alive today because he had his seatbelt on.

Oh, that sounds like something I'd do! Talk about your "duh" moment! I have heard of ladies bringing their machine in saying it keeps breaking the thread only to find out they hadn't changed the needle in so long that it was worn clear down to the eye! I guess the worst (so far) that I've done is get my needle in backwards and then wondered why it wasn't sewing so well. Glad you took it to someone who got to laugh with you and not at you!

I have done things like that too many times, always end up feeling like a dork. Oh well - at least it's fixed now and if it ever happens to anyone you know you will look like a genius because you know exactly what's wrong with their machine:D

I'm glad it wasn't anything you had to pay to fix. That's always a drag. Just think, the money you saved fixing it can go to new fabric!! Happy sewing.

Oh thats sooooooooooo funny, Deb (You had me in stitches!... okay, okay bad pun!)... because I more or less have done something just like that!
When we (Hubby and I) purchased our Chevy Blazer, for some reason Hubby could not get his window (front passenger)to work, but on my side (driver's) I am able to control it for him with my buttons. About 6 six years later while the Blazer was in for the yearly tune-up. We decided we could afford for the electronics to be looked at and fixed for that window. We came back to pick it back up, the mechanic informed us that it works just fine and showed me (the driver) the "safety lock" button for windows, it had been in the locked position all this time! I just totally cracked up!
I am glad that your machine wasn't broken!

Deb, that's so funny! I would have done the same thing. Mine is not working either. Can't get the tension right. As soon as I take it to someone they'll have it fixed in no time. I don't know a thing about them. I'm glad you can sew again. Have fun.

I have always wondered why we can put a man on the moon, make computers the size of a pin but we can't make a very simple sewing machine for people like me. All those leavers and why does the thread have to go 50 places before the needle. Needless to say i am NOT good with the sewing machine.

No need to be embarrassed!! We have all done something similar as we were learning our machines. You will become familiar with it's sounds, how it "feels" etc.. . then one day you will help someone else that is just starting out get to know there's. It's the cycle of sewing. . .
