something just calls out to you?

I am not a dishes kind of person. I don't collect things like that because I don't have the space to use them right now. But we were at an estate sale today and walked into this woman's house and there was a sugar and creamer set that just called to me. Like I was supposed to have it. It wasn't expensive or anything, but it was OLD. I certainly don't need a sugar and creamer set. Its not even anything I would normally look at. So I set it down and went into the other places of the house to look. But I kept coming back to that darn sugar and creamer set. I finally decided that there was a reason I was supposed to have it, so I bought it.

This is what it looks like, except the one I bought is really old - if you go to this page and scroll down and click on where it says "creamer and open sugar tray set", you will see a pic.

My mom says this happens to her a lot. Sometimes she will walk into an antique shop and something will just speak to her. And she won't know why, but she knows for some reason its supposed to come home with her. Does this happen to anyone else?

It is wonderful, we all need some pretty around us.

The last real "buy me" I experienced was a porcelain cow and calf. It's probably 10 inches high, the cow is sitting up like a dog and her calf is cuddled to her side. They are white with black spots. They remind me of the Holsteins on my parents' farm. It was not something I would have looked for but they had such sweet expressions and remind me of home. It was $2 and one of the things that bring a smile to my face every time.

Amy,

Love it! It is soo pretty. Don't ya just love finding a bargain?!! I have plenty of things that "called" to me! My philosophy is surround yourself with things you adore. Is your set what they refer to as "chintzware"?

How funny!! I have let a few things slip away that I still regret. Once at a flea market I saw huge wooden goose. I wanted it but walked around for a while. When I went back it was gone. that was over 16 years ago and I still think about it!

It's all good!

All the time! (unfortunately) I once saw an old cheese box in the front window of an antique store and could hear it screaming my name. I stopped and walked over to the window to look closer and in pencil written on the front was "Linda". That's my name! Unfortunately the store was closed that day and I never got the cheese box. I hope it went home with another Linda.

I love to use things like that as vases. You most certainly are not alone! I have a house full of "it called me"! I have a large collection of creamers.

It's all good!

Glad to hear I'm not the only one!!

I got the set for $4.00. I don't know how old it is, but it looks well used (gold paint is wearing off in parts) and the inside of both the sugar and creamer is all craized (sp?) and aged. Still beautiful , but obviously not new!! I was trying to find the history of when something like that would have been made, but haven't so far. Guess I have to do more research. :)

that happend to ma ll the time. What a pretty set, I can see why you bought it. If you aren't going to use it right away as a cream/sugar set.....put some water in each vessel and put some pretty little flowers in it!

Pretty, glad you bought it :)
There are no yard sales here but when I go to a "junk" sale at the church I sometimes hear something whisper "BUY ME" lol. Last time I bought a lamp base with a little angle on it, and yes it whispered to me from afar. Got it for 50 cents and it made me happy.

I tend to not spend too much time in antique shops because things speak to me and I end up buying something I hadn't planned for. Funny, but I never regret it. My favorite furniture are the pieces I bought at antique stores.I think in a way it must remind me of my childhood and times spent at my grandma's house. Probably the strangest thing I ever bought was a candlelabra (can't spell) that the shop owner told me was probably left over from a church. I don't know why certain things call out my name, but I think it happens to lots of people (only it doesn't happen in chain furniture stores--I refuse to even buy anything from them anymore).

I have several pieces like that. I don't know if it's a certain period in time that appeals or what. Perhaps we owned something like it in another lifetime and it reminds us of who we were....?? I have some really beautiful Haviland pieces - french type and I also have a yen for lusterware from the turn of the century. I don't go searching for it, it just seems to show up. When I bring the pieces home, they just seem to belong.

The creamer and sugar set that you bought is chintz ware and is really nice. it can be pricey, I hope you got a good deal on it. Do you have any idea how old it is?

Blessings, Sheri
