Hi Gals,
I am bumping this up to remind those who have seen this before and to let others know that this is ongoing. Yes, I still collect these for the Shriner's Hospital, The hospital does not turn down the children in need of special help!
Thank you for your continued support!
~Karrieann

Hiya Gals,
I have recently been accepted into the Ladies's Oriental Shrine of North America (LOSNA). We are known as Lady Shriners. We help to raise funds for the Shriners Hospitals in Canada, USA and Mexico. We ladies also do what we can to provide gift bags for the children who come to stay in the hospitals. A few ways that we do to help raise monies is through collections of aluminum tabs off the soda pop cans and canceled postage stamps. The LOSNA gain funds for these and donates them to the Shriners Hospitals.

I am asking if you would mind help in this by cutting the canceled postage stamps and collect them into an envelope every once awhile, then mail them to me to donate.

There is no deadline. This is an on going project.

If you would like to participate, you may e-mail me for my address.

I know the out come with y'all will be great... so I thank you in advance! THANK YOU!!!!! :o)

~~Updated info: (06 March 2010) I was chatting with another gal who is also a member of LOSNA...longer than I, to get detailed information. I was mixed up about stamps in regard to "who" they went to. We still collect them, but we also collect the tabs of the pop cans ...and the front half of used greeting cards (all occasions and holidays)with no writings on it.
~~quoted from my friend of my e-mail:
quote:
The Shriners Hospital benefits from the can tabs and some of the greeting card fronts.
The cancelled stamps are sent to the Boys & Girls Home in Omaha, Nebraska. They have a company that recycles them and withdraws the ink from the stamps and that money goes to the "home". It is like an orphanage and has been in business for many years. The Shriners hospital has a company that gives them 90 cents per pound for the can tabs, which is better than we can find anywhere else.

Do not peel off the stamps.. just cut around them, leaving the paper adhered to the stamp.

I'm guessing these stamps are sold to stamp dealers who sort and resell them to collectors. I used to collect stamps and I started with buying a bag of canceled stamps, cut from the envelope, for a few dollars. I still have a bunch on paper yet so when I locate them I'll send for your address!

Just a thought here...you might want to post this on the Lost Art of Letter Writing. There is a lot of mail exchanged there so that means lots of stamps :-)

i'm interested, too!

can you accept foreign stamps? i wish i'd known about this before... i receive some packages from other countries through e-bay or amazon and wished i'd known someone to give the stamps to. so let me know if you can accept foreign stamps.

if i collect enough outdated stamps, i'll e-mail you as well. along with any pop tabs i may come across!
