Okay, so I have been reading a lot of posts in a lot of forums. Several of the ideas posted here really resonate with me, particularly the green cleaning tips and recipes. I feel pulled to live more environmentally consciously but how do I get the rest of my family to follow?

For instance, I like the idea of using cloth napkins. But my husband is sloppy. There are always crumbs, globs, drips, etc., around his plate, on the table, on the placemat. I don't like stained things and I am afraid that he will be resistant to this change and it will deteriorate to a big arguement.

By the way, we will have been married for 25 years this coming June.

Someone posted in Farm Girl Fashion, I think, about having different colors for different family members. I guess his napkins could be a dark patterned fabric?

Thanks for your input.

I think camo is an excellent idea - and, have you ladies seen the new pink camo fabric? Make a pink set for yourself to match his!!!

Washcloths make sense! They are absorbant, easy to make and wash up nicely! That's a great idea, Teresa.

I use washclothes for everyday napkins, I made a bunch of white ones outa terry clothe, that way I can wash them, and add vinegar and baking soda to keep them white.

My husband is the same way - so far I haven't switched to cloth napkins for that very reason, although I just made a whole set from vintage tablecloths. Dark color might be a good idea and oilcloth for a tablecloth has saved my sanity:) And I feel the same way about the argument - I would rather the people in my life felt that I valued them more than the napkins/furniture/etc., so I kind of let things slide.

aren't all husbands that way? :) i think Julie's idea is fun... i figure if you make something, including change fun, he'll be less resistant. hey, maybe make them yourself and involve him in finding a pattern/fabric he likes! if he has his own, personal set, it might make him feel special and he'll want to use them all the time!

Use oil cloth? Or make his set in some crazy funky "GUY" pattern and then it wont matter! You can always put out the nice stuff when company comes.
