without seeing a stinkin' snake. They are all over the place. I'll be watching tv and there goes one across the screen. Or I'll be looking through a magazine and turn the page and there's another one. I was watching a movie last night and there's a huge Boa. 2 of them. Then a commercial and there's another. What is going on here? I even see them on blogs. Someone had a picture of the ground and was asking if we could see the wildlife in the picture. Of course the next one showed a huge snake. I screamed and ran. What am I going to do? I am terrified of them. Then I'll dream about them, too. And not just one but a whole room full of them. It's horrible to have such a fear of snakes. And I live in the middle of nowhere, too. So they are all over out here. I saw 3 in my yard just last year. One in my goat milk room. I couldn't go back in there for a month. Had to drag all the stanchions outside and milk there. And that's only the ones I actually SAW. I know they are all over. I can't even watch any animal shows or talk shows when they have the animal people on because sure enuf they'll bring out a huge snake wrapped all around them. I just can't look.

I got it from my mom. My step dad has to look through magazines and papers just to see if there are any pictures of them. It's bad.

Are there any others out there like this? Or is it just us?

Kris

Luanne, how awful! That would have been the end of me for sure. I have had them chase me and that's scary enough.

Mary Jane, sometimes it's good to keep these fears to ourselves and not tell anyone close to us. My son-in-law (at the time)thought it'd be funny to play a joke on me one time. He never did that again. And my oldest DD is terrified of Grandaddy long leg spiders. She totally freaks out and goes crazy if she sees one. Well, he found that out and would throw them at her. That didn't last long either. He's not around anymore. The SIL. That's just not cool at all.

Even the fake rubber kid toy snakes are scary to me. The grands know this and they try to scare me with one every now and then. They think it's so funny. Ha ha! But they learn fast. I'll never get rid of them, though.

It is a terrible feeling to have such fear. Sometimes people make fun of it and that is so cruel. They think its fake. Little do they know! I had an awful fear of rats for a long time. I mean they totally freaked me out. I am better with them, like a pet one, but not the real nasty looking out in the wild ones. I also have a fear of bears. I know where that came form. My mother !I was always taking off by myself when I was a wee thing. We lived on land with dense woods. There were bears, but she kept telling me not to go off by myself or the bears could get me. Now this is the funny part. At that time it didn't bother me one bit, I still took right off, but when I got older is when it started. I like to watch shows about them, safe on my couch, but if I ever saw one, I would probably pass out! No joke!

Hi Kristin -

I'm sorry to hear about your snake phobia, but am glad to hear I'm not the only one who has this terrible fear of snakes. I have been that way since I was a young child and stepped on a snake when we were on a family picnic. The snake wrapped around my ankle and I have had the same problem as you ever since. I also can't look at pictures, etc. and wake up screaming with nightmares every now and then. I have never found a solution - just figured it was something I have to live with.

At least don't feel like you are alone in this!!

Take care,
Luanne

I think everyone has that one thing that makes us go Ugh! I don't like snakes either and I really hate rats.

It's all good!

Shoot, I can't even get anything that has a picture on it. I used to work at Ace Hardware and when someone would bring up a box of that snake-away stuff, I'd scream and have to have the boss ring it up. But I could get the hubby to get me some and put it out for me. If I can ever get him back home again.

Zan, I know this is from my mother. It's all her fault. She was also deathly afraid of lightning storms. I remember when we were little and a storm would start, she'd load us all in the car and we'd ride around til it was over. I guess she was more afraid of being struck by lightning. I still do that to this day, too. I feel safer in a car. I know. It's all her fault. I should go to a therapist, huh?

Cndy, I am sorry you have such a fear of bears. They really do look scary. And huge. And those teeth. And claws. Oh my.

Hey Kristin, if you have a TSC close to you, check them out and see if they have a product called "snake stopper", I don't know too much about it, but it might be worth a try!!!

Girl, you are gonna havta move up north. Not much snakes around here! Hmmm, I always wonder where fears like that come from. I am not afraid of anything, and I understand people's fears--my mom is afraid of mice and frogs. But I just wonder how these things start, and why.

Snakes don't scare me too much, but I have a fear of bears. Don't know why, I've never seen one in the wild, but when we went to the Smokey Mountains when I was young, I was terrified I'd see a bear. I can look at them in zoos and it doesn't bother me (except for the grizzly bears) but sometimes I have dreams about bears and it terrifies me. And I can't stand the sounds they make--it creeps me out. I guess it's a good thing I live in an area where there are no bears--I'd be afraid to go for a hike through the woods if I lived in a bear state. Lions and tigers I don't mind, but bears--oh my!

I might just have to go find me a good hynotist I guess. It is no fun to be so afraid of snakes. I am not afraid of anything else. There are things I don't like but that's it. And Teresa, I will not run over a snake either. I am so afraid they will end up in my car somehow.

But I did have guineas up til a few months ago. They were no help at all. And the stupid dogs would run right over the snakes and never see them. They were worse than the guineas. I tried the moth balls all over the milk room and had to sweep them all up because even I couldn't go in there.

Amy, I did the same thing with my kids once except I grabbed them and started running. We were in a nature preserve of all places walking along a creek with a very narrow path with bushes on the side. I looked over and just glimpsed a little snake wrapped around a stem. I screamed and got one kid in front of me pushing her and puulling the other one behind me. It took 2 minutes to get us out of there where it took us a half hour to get where we were. I have never been back there again.

I may just have to end up moving to Ireland.

Snakes also creep me out, I'm not fond of frogs or fish either. My girlfriend is afraid of cats, even pictures of them. I have a friend who when I brought a bag of cotton balls made me put them in the truck of my car and I had to promise I would never buy cotton when she was with me. It's not fun being afraid of something..

Poor Kristin, so sorry that you have such a phobia. Can't say I'm that afraid of anything. DH just looked this up for you...Snakephobia or Ophidiophobia. He just printed out a list of phobias because he wanted to take it to work to show a co-worker that is afraid of crowds.Big[[[Hugs]]]to you Girly!!

My mom is deathly afraid of snakes. I remember us fishing and she saw one in the water coming towards us and she grabbed onto my sister's arm so hard she left marks. My mom didn't even realize she was doing it. My sister just kept saying, "Mom. Let go of my arm...Mom! Let go of my arm!" I'm glad I didn't inherit her fear! I used to be absolutely terrified of storms, but I'm working on that...

Kris there is a chemical that you can put down and it will send them away. Also hens Guinea will take care if them except they are very noisy and messy a great deal more so than a chicken.

Kristin, I fully understand your situation. I have a fear of real frogs and toads. When I first moved to my home here... the back yard was hopping with them. There were so many that you would step on them as you walked. But, I took care of that little problem. I mowed my lawn about every third day. It took the good part of a whole summer but I finally got rid of the little devils. I know that sounds gross but at the time I felt I had no other choice.

Kris I 'm not bugged by snakes, but spiders terrify the heck out of me...One day I was about to pour coffee in my cup and there was this big ol' black hairy spider in my cup! I don't know how to help you but I sure can sympathize

LOL, I have a friend who is as bad or worse than you about snakes. She'll be driving down the road, and there will be one dead, and she picks up both feet as she drives past it, and if she could, her eyes would be closed also, lol. She went to a hypnotist (sp?) and she no longer has that extreme fear, she does'nt like them, will not go out of her way to look at them, but she no longer completly freaks out about them.
