I knew I could count on you gals....Nicole(Texdane) you gave me a good idea....I live on PEI now (home of Anne of Green Gables) but I am originally from Ontario. The chef is from PEI....so maybe I'll make something from Ontario.....hmmmm, not much in season now though here in Canada. Ontario has great peaches, but not until July...

One of my daughter's friends and her parents were coming to dinner. We live in CT and he was a chef in NYC. Sooo, I made Texas chili, from my hometown. THEY loved it. Make something "home-y", but that is special to you, like a favorite casserole or meal that you know you cook well. I'm sure he/she will love it... I love a meal that I don't have to cook! :)

I always try to do a mixture of homemade and semihomemade. I buy say the salad and make the bread. I also make a dessert. the meal would have no more than 5 ingredients. No stress!!!

It's all good!

Keep it simple Mel---Simple is always good
I'd recommend something, but my DH is the "chef" in my house!

Post your menu when you decide!

We have a friend who owns a well known restaurant here in Portland and has been written up about his food over the years. He and his wife came to dinner a couple of years ago and I did not do anything crazy. I made a really good lasagna, big garden salad, nice garlic bread and followed up with a comfort food type of desert with home canned fruit. He loved it, said he really appreciates it when he does not have to cook and someone makes him a good home cooked meal. So go with what is comfortable for you - they will appreciate it.

Or ask him what you should buy so that he can cook for you!

I agree with Lisa and Amy - make your best specialty meal. Everyone has a standard. I'm sure whatever you choose will be great!

Make something you are comfortable with. No time for some new recipe with a chef in the house!
