Ok, I was thinking last night about all the words that sound the same but have totally different meanings. Then I started coming up with farmgirl words.

Example: Pig out: that darn cow is out again or lets pig out.

Another one is fencing. Like with swords or actual putting up fencing.

Hey, as in the Southeren hello or hay that critters eat.

Herd, as in a herd of goats or I heard the goats hollering for more hay.

So can ya;ll think of some more like this? I thought it would be fun on such a blizzardy day. Get those thinking caps on, girls!

The first I thought of was bat, one that flies, one for baseball, and to "bat your eyelashes".

If you like this kind of word play check out the kid's section in your library for "The King Who Rained" and "The Fork in the Road". Take your kids along, or if you don't have kids. They are both by Fred Gwynne. If that name is a bit familiar it might be because he was Herman Munster in the tv show The Munsters. They were probably written in the '80s so I'm not sure they'd still be around but the illustrations are fun if you can find them.

Invalid ... as in your driver's license expired. Or invalid ... as in someone who is bedridden. Two different pronunciations. Does that count?

He is still in the hospital. They are going to keep him today and tonight. i am on my way up there now to let my DD get a shower and some rest. It was pretty scarey last night he was gurgling and secretions were coming out his nose and mouth. He wasn't breathing. But then I was patting his back and he threw up a ton of flem and then he calmed down a little. I am sure that was more than you wanted to know.lol

Blessings,
Tina

Tina, how is the baby? I hate when babies are sick. They can't tell us what's wrong. I hope he gets over this soon. Give him an extra hug for me.

I thought of a few more.

Calf like a baby cow and calf like on your leg. And 2 legged kids and 4 legged goat kids.

Ya'll have come up with some good ones. I just thought this would get us to thinking a little and picking the ole brain.

Oh, and ewe as in sheep and you as in us.

This is kinda different, but we say, we are "fixin" to do something. My friend from up North, says that drives her crazy.
I guess I never really thought about it. Shhh! I still say it anyway!

On a related note, why are so many negative human traits named after farm animals? IE: stubborn as a mule; are you chicken? that person eats like a pig...
