Hello!
I recently found my old charm bracelet and began wearing it again. I actually purchased new charms for it the other day, as well as a new bracelet itself with double links so I can add more charms. My bracelet is all sterling, but I have been thinking about adding some more color.
This is such a fun thing to do-I had forgotten how great charm bracelets were. I plan to get a new charm from every where I travel to, as well as charms that represent me and events in my life.
Right now, most of my charms are from my childhood:
Ballerina (I did Ballet when I was little)
Ice Skate (I loved ice skating)
Cat (Our family cat who was with us for 18 yrs)
Clarinet (I played this instrument for 6 yrs)
Mermaid
Bicycle
Witch
Comet (I have always been mesmerized by space, something I get from my dad)
Bee (I am allergic to them, but still really appreciate them)
Palm Tree (Went to Hawaii with my dad to visit my grandma in 3rd grade)
Small silver puffed heart
These ones are new:
Lion (Symbolizes my brother who is a Leo and very Loyal)
Ladybug (Symbolizes my sister)
Cheetah (Symbolizes my other sister who has been obsessed with large cats since she was a child)
Nude Woman/Virgo (Symbolizes my mom-she is a Virgo and loves nude art)
Does any one else have a special charm bracelet? Can you describe it?

I have a charm bracelet my mom gave me when I was about 12. I've collected a few charms on it: a grain elevator (to remind me of home), a windmill, Minnie Mouse (a trip to Dsnyld), a typewriter (I like to write), and old fashioned telephone, a wooden shoe, a stork with baby (for my DD), a sombrero (trip to Mexico), a dinosaur (Drumheller trip) and a teddybear.
I think you can pick up silver charms readily at thrift shops around here. I like old ones best. The new ones ar too shiny. ;-)

I have two One that was my mothers and one that my husband bought for me. My mom's I don't add to, but mine is added to on a regular basis. I wear them both a couple of times a month and enjoy talking about them when people ask.

I never had a charm braclet but yours all sound so wonderful and fun. We had a grandaughter Jailin born 2-10-10. I may want to start one for her. It sounds like fun.

Melody! That polymer clay charms site is great! My fav was the yellow cake with chocolate frosting! Can you tell I am partial to that type of cake? That's all I ever want to bake or order for my birthday! Too cute and very reasonably priced!

I have one full of charms (2 on each link), started when I was a girl. I had to get another one, but I never wear mine. It kinda tells the story of my life. The first one is so heavy and full I'd be afraid to lose it.

I have been looking at starter charm bracelets on Ebay and they are pretty reasonable. I actually just bought one for $7. You can find some great deals!
The polymer clay charms are super cute! I love them!
Marly, that is so great you found your charm bracelet :)
I just went to a flea market in Seattle today and kept my eye out for charms. I found a few, but nothing I particularly wanted so I did not purchase any.

I had one when I was young too...but don't know what happened to it.
Where could a person get the bracelet to start with that is not expensive? I know it would need to be strong enough to hold several charms....any ideas? I'm not sure I want to make one unless I can find supplies that are strong enough. Any ideas? I've been wanting a charm bracelet for a long time.

Oh this IS a good topic! I have a charm bracelet from my youth and have not added anything since High School. They seemed to have fallen out of favor around then. I didn't even realize you could still get charms for them. I don't think I have very many, I'm sure less than 10 but I just may have to go find it. I had two of them, the original one was silver and then I thought I needed a gold one but never got very many charms for that one. I'll have to see about putting all the charms on one bracelet. I like the idea of putting beads on them too for some extra color!

Praying hands, for my relationship with Christ
G clef - I love music and choral singing
tiny grand piano - I play classical piano
horse - I love horses and riding
sturrup iron with a horse head in it
skeleton key - the "key to my heart"
heart
Sand dollar, representing Christ's death, burial and ressurection
Drama mask, a gift from my friends when I graduated high school, we were all in Drama together and performed many plays
heart and key together - another "key to my heart" thing
Mother/daughter hearts
A Hershey kiss, from a vacation to Hershey, PA
I wear mine from time to time. My mother has a really cool one from when she was a teenager, jam packed with charms from the 60's. Hers is truly a collector's piece! I haven't seen it in years, though.

After Christmas I splurged on a Chamilia bracelet for myself. My birthstone is diamond and my favorite color is burgundy. So my beads/charms are:
horse, because of all the riding I do;
moose, for living in Alaska ;
cross w/crystal, for my faith;
several heart beads, just because I like hearts;
several burgundy bead, just 'cuz.
I have on order a piano (I play); a snowflake (Alaska again); a lighthouse (I live in Oregon); a fleur-de-lis (I majored in French and went to France).
I also want to get birthstone beads for my two children (March and December) and a pearl heart something to commemorate our wedding in June, 1985. Then in 2 years when I turn 50 I will really splurge and get a gold birthstone bead for me.
Beware--it's addicting!!

So, I took out my charm bracelet last night. My girls just went ga-ga over it! I really must look into starting one for them!
As I looked at my charms it dawned on me that the person buying the charms went to all these places and bought the charms with me in mind - but without me! I'm going to go with a different theme for my girls. Each charm will mean something specific to them.

I have one that I started at age 11. I haven't added new charms in awhile but do love it. It has a charm from each state I have lived in (4) and places I went on special trips..even a little hula girl from when my grandma went to Hawaii when I was in HS and a sombrero from when ex mom in law went to mexico..some silly ones too, but they all have a meaning and I love it.

OH! I wonder where mine is at? My Aunt started mine for me and I received a charm for all the special occasions. I'll have to find it and post my charms. How fun of a thread!
You know what is really, really sad? I've never ever worn mine!  It was too big for me as a child. Then when I became a teen - I thought I was too cool for it.
I've been tinkering with the idea of getting one for my girls (each).

Mine is filled with souvenir charms from where we went on vacation. Eiffel Toer from Paris, Niagara Falls from Canada...things like that. Love to wear it but it snags indeed lol

Yeah they are really fun, but I definitely have noticed that I have to be extra careful when I wear it because the charms catch and snag on my clothing. I just need to be more aware.
Since rediscovering my love of charms and charm bracelets, I have been thinking about starting one for my best friend's daughter. She will turn 3 in May. I am thinking about getting her an adult size bracelet that she will not be able to wear until she is older. I'm thinking her mom can keep it safe until she is old enough to appreciate it. When I was growing up in Elementary school I always loved playing with my charms. I think it would be fun to get her a new charm to add every year so when she is older, she will have a collection of keepsake charms. :)

Yes! I do...I haven't added any new ones in a long time. After reading your post I rummaged through my jewelry box and looked at it---haven't done that in a while--it brought back many happy memories. Wish I had someplace to wear it though! I do a lot of embroidery, quilting and knitting during the day and it just isn't practical to wear around the house! But, the next time DH takes me out to dinner (McDonald's probably!) I am going to put it on! They are fun aren't they?

Yes, the "tinkling" sound the charms make is one of my favorite things about wearing it :)
I was looking at the vintage charms bracelets being sold on Ebay and they are super expensive! But oh, are they beautiful! I love the old charms with movable parts.
Do you have a ton of charms on your bracelet?

Don't you just love the "tinkling" sound your charm bracelet makes??
Mine is ancient---the kids would get me a charm for Christmas or my birthday---I even found some old medals that they used to give students for spelling bees or Latin scholars I thought they would make mine a little unique.
I was given a Pandora bracelet a while back but I only have 3 charms on that one and it doesn't "tinkle!" 
Spotted a Victorian one at a huge flea market in St. Paul once---all gold charms and HEAVY! They wanted a small fortune for that, but it was fun just holding it my hand!
