I have recently learned that IDEM (Indiana Dept. of Envi. Mgmt) has proposed legislation that may effectively BAN outdoor wood furnaces or outdoor wood boilers all accross the state---and no grandfather clause. Comments to IDEM and legislature are needed no later than 2/22/10 -- Apparently IDEM has received many petitions and is considering a state-wide ban or other further restrictions on hydronic heaters... yep, it's true...I was online the other day and looking at the bylaws of a nearby subdivision...and it was actually written in...no solar panels or clothes lines. I just don't understand the logic.....or more appropriately stated...the LACK of logic.... my little ole wood boiler doesn't hurt anybody....but since then has logic and legislature ever been in the same sentence???? NOT !!

They want to ban solar panels? What the heck! I think a lot of companies are worrying that their incomes will be hurt by the peoples movement for less dependence on their services. This is a big movement that I think they fear just might catch on and if people become more self sustained they are really going to feel a loss from that. The big businesses are going to put up a good fight you can count on that.I truly hope that government no matter what party will help the people to keep their independence and freedom of choice. Thats pretty ironic actually, them using matters of air quality, it sure never bothered them before did it? It also really angers me that they are trying to force us to use cable or dishes for TV. We have no access to cable here because they say we are too far off the road,(1800 FT) there are 2 houses on our property and they said there would have to be one more house to make it worth their while. I said to the guy, well we'll just run right out and put up another house! I don't want cable or a dish, I am happy with what we have. Why would they have the right to try and force their services on us? There is a big movement here by the people to stop them from doing it.I was very happy to see that happening, finally we are standing up to this nonesense.

Also what about putting it in the magazine idea suggestion thread. I think the clothes line thing should be added once more information is known. These things threated our way of farmgirl life!

Contact the local or state level Republican Women's group. I know here in MS when something like this happens it's the women that make the stand and demand the action.

Cindy Lou, yeah, I've heard of solar bans too....IDEM wants to ban this type of alternative heat source yet there is zero incentive at the moment in the state for wind or solar....I agree that it's all about the mighty dollar....yet the only way to address this issue forthwith is to respond to IDEM's request for public comment...as stated earlier...Farmgirls....here's a call to action...don't let this type of legislation sneak past and become law......

My nephew just brought one and put it in this summer and just heard the same news. He's not happy either. Melanie may be right when she said big business may lose a few dollars, They want to take away antenta (free) TV around here also so people will have to pay for cable or the dish if they want to watch TV. That has nothing to do with air quality, just money hungry businesses.

Why would they be more polluting than an indoor furnace?
A neighboring town here is banning solar heating because the units don't fit their idea of "attractive" buildings. Arghhhh!

IDEM is alleging this involves an air quality issue....and is soliciting public comment for a new draft rule, 326 IAC 4-3...with a deadline for comment of 2/22/2010. Indiana Farmgirls, this is a call to action and your assistance is needed immediately regarding this proposed legislation.....send me an email and I will send you a PDF with the entire discussion of the proposed ban......

I have heard quite a few states are considering a ban. I really don't understand why. Maybe Melanie is right, God forbid big business should lose any money and the normal people actually save some!

That is crazy!!! Why in the world would they want to ban them? Do they pose some kind of threat I haven't heard about? I mean other than dipping into the profits of the big electric and gas companies?
