We are all very frugle one way or another. But, my question is, what do you waste the most?

Mine is food. Left overs and fresh veggies. I put leftovers in the freezer (usually unmarked) and throw it away or actually feed to the cats or chickens because I can't tell what it is. Fresh veggies are bought with all good intintions. Get sidetracked for a few days (or weeks) and then woops, out it goes. Chickens are happy but guilt trip for me. Your turn.

well for me it is water.i love water. i have a pain issue so i use hot hot water to help me relax. then there are the water troughs lol lol i seem to leave one filling at least once a month. even now with frozen hoses i seem to let her run. i was in town last week on one of those warmer days. had to call neighbor to turn off my water. left the chicken water on. i agree the food thing is hard. there is only two of us. we seem to always have leftovers. yes the animals get it. i also try to give the really good stuff to a friend who is living alone. she likes my food. cooking for one is boring she says. anyway for me it has to be water. sherrye

Paper towels... I could use a whole roll making a big supper. BUT my sweet daughter bought me a couple dozen cotton cloths to keep in a basket beside the sink, to use and toss in the wash as often as I like, and it's really helping. Maybe there's hope for my wasteful ways!

Electric is what I waste the most, I can't see well in the dark so I have night lights plugged in every room and only turn them off if I'm going away for a few days.
I have to admit I always make to much food but my DH doesn't mind the soup at the end of the week an my elderly neighbors love it when I send leftovers their way.
Confession time: I also leave the water running when doing my dishes more times than I should. Not all the time but enough to know better.

Hope all your days are Sunnydays.

Brenda, yes, it is hard to cook for 2. Most recipes are for 4 or 8. When I plan for just 2, like 2 pork chops, 2 hamburgers or what ever, sure enough here will come a grandkid. I will offer to expand the menue to include them but they will say, no can just stay a min. Then they will stand there and visit While WE eat. Hate that.

Belle- I know exactly what you are saying! Your post could have come from me! I try really... husband says I cook too much. Admittedly I do sometimes.... comes from the days of having 5 children at home. I do eat leftovers, to a point, he will finish them, sometimes...
At least though my 2 dogs will eat them! We have one very skinny golden retriever who I keep trying to put weight on! He will eat any leftovers I give him! Even veggies!
If I always had to cook for two it wouldn't be a problem, I would addapt, the problem is I never know who is going to be around for dinner. I have told my kids if they just show up at my house, and I'm not expecting them for dinner, they will eat what I happen to have. If they call ahead and tell me they are coming, then I can plan a nice dinner!

Electricity. We have 5 adults living in my house and I know that there are extension cords plugged in everywhere to add more things to the plugs. There are 6 computers running all the time. At least two sometimes 3 TV's. My sister leaves a heating pad on for the old cat we have because she has arthritis, a/c or heat etc etc. I know for us it is electricity.

I think my biggest waste would be time. There are so many good things I could be doing if I set my mind to it. But sometimes I am just plain ole lazy. I didn't used to be this way. I think since I got this computer it's gotten so bad. I have no will power! So hands down, time has got to be my biggest waste. But when I do get to working, I can get things done quick. That's when I think all the wasted time get used up.

All the things I can actually SEE I have a fit over because things I can see usually cost money and I hate to waste money. I am pretty good about being careful lately about spending since we don't have alot to spend. So I am careful about the heater and lights and water.

Probably electricity is the number 1 for me also. My parents live with us, they watch TV the whole day long. Plus, they are so cold natured that I keep the thermostat up to 74 degrees. Then we have the heated water buckets and heat lamps. YIKES!!

I think we probably waste electicity. I have three teens all have computers, cell phones and so on. We all watch t.v in a different area or play on a computer in a different room, then the barn lights, heat lamps in winter and the water tank heaters [yikes]. I do use oil lamps, battery powered led lights and so on as much as possible. I only turn on a light when reading or sewing [if needed].
I do not waste very many leftovers. we eat some for lunch, make stews or caseroles and then what we can not eat goes to the barn animals [the pig gets a lot of these].

I waste water when I wash dishes. I don't use the plug and just let the water run as i wash the dishes. Every now and then, I use the plug.....just have always done it this way

Food that gets shoved into the back of the frige and forgotten, leftovers that no one wants to wash the dish after and the last 2 drops of anything!

And yes, I suppose it really doesn't get wasted seeings as the scraps go to the chickens

Same applies for leftover summer crops too. Sometimes they just get ahead of us.

I';m trying to forego plastic wrap. Hubby eats 2 sandwiches every day, so he bought a smallish container for both to go into to rather than individually wrapping them in plastic. Great when he remembers to bring it back into the house.

We do reuse ziplock bags till they either loose the zip or get punctures in them

I know what your saying Belle, when I get home from the store and prepare meat to go in the freezer, I usually just wrap and put it right in on top of what I have. Then when I'm getting something out to fix for dinner, I'll grab the one on top. Well by the time I reach the bottom, If I ever do, It's freezer burnt. I need to take the time to move things around when packing the freezer.

I have a problem with wasting food because it seems my husband and I are totally different eaters and it's hard for me to eat up fresh veggies by myself. Sigh. I am trying to get better about things though. I'm also trying not to use plastic bags too, and sometimes it's just hard to do things I want to do where I live!

Ya'll missed the question. What do YOU waste? Read your responses and I have a "yah but" for everyone. I don't use permanent markers on my "keeper" freezer containers. I don't have a problem with leftover veggies. I usually put them in the blender and make cream soup with them. They don't go to the freezer. And I can't think of a dish that is made with left over frozen liver and onions and spagetti and meatballs.

Actually, now that I think of it, I am pretty good at using up stuff. Tonight we had Posole soup. Frozen left over pork roast, frozen chicken broth, onion, canned hominy and S.W. seasoning. Pretty good. Ole Ron had seconds. That means it is a winner.

Oh My Goodness!! My fiance did this(container in freezer) and I looked at him like he was crazy. He instructed my to trust him. When it came time to have that stew I sat with my nose wrinkled and so did my and his kids. My very picky son had seconds and wanted it for breakfast. We all loved it. ....hmph. Goes to show me huh.

Lol, I made stew this eve., my daughter investigates "Matt makin stew?" No "Oh, makin it with left-overs?" No "oh"(in a disapointed tone) Who would of ever thunk it

I had a friend who did a variation on this. She was married to a big eater and had three sons. On Sunday she put a deep, large container in her freezer with its top. Then every meal as she had leftovers all week she put them in this large container. The family knew that every Fri. night was stew, soup, etc. night.

You don't really waste it if you feed animals with it when you get rid of it. I suggest putting a permanent marker by wher eyou put your veggies in their containers to put in the freezer and mark with name and date. I have a system that works fairly well for me. I put leftovers in the freezer that is with my fridge instead of the large freezer. At least once or more times a week, I say not sure what I am cooking but it comes out of this freezer. I just search and get out leftovers either to defrost and reheat or to make soup with. If there are a couple of items, then I can always add from my pantry one item to go with these. It has worked great for me. When I start to cook on that day, I just open my freezer and lay some things out.

Hope this helps. Have a blessed week.
