Great web site Mikki! My mother is 85 and still spends a great part of her day's knitting. I can see the good that it is doing for her.

I saw a book the other day on meditation and knitting. Can't remember the title. But any type of needlework has much the same effect as meditating.

Keeps my mouth (relatively) shut during boring presentations, helps relieve my anxiety when I'm overwhelmed or up in the middle of the night and can't sleep and don't want to wake anyone, and passes the time while I'm waiting at a sports practice/pool/or any other extracurricular for the boys. And...when I'm knitting....I'm not eating!

I agree with the therapeutic value of handicrafts. But if you are just learning (like me with sewing) it can cause more frustration than relaxation!

I deal with quite a bit of stress
I have quite a number of diseases and conditions
I can't work as much as I like because of arithris and conditions in my arms and hands.

It calms me right down, except for when I have to unravel or pick up a dropped stitch...lol

cool! I have been aware of how relaxing my knit or crochet is and also I'd call it a type of meditation.

I know that my knitting is good for my HUSBAND"S health...he has been home with a knee injury for a couple weeks and if I didn't knit I don't think he would survive..haha.
