Posted - Dec 16 2009 : 7:01:19 PM The wonderful BF decided that is was finally time to get a dog. I of course wanted another Great Dane like my previous dog and he was not so much for a 180 pound dog in the house! He's more for the smaller dogs. We decided on a beagle. We go Saturday to make the trip to pick him up! Its about a 2 hour drive to go get him. He will be just 7 weeks old. The breeder said he is about 4 pounds or so as of right now. I can't wait! I'm soooooooooooooo excited!

Posted - Dec 18 2009 : 2:51:22 PM I grew up with beagles too. I loved them, they are wonderful family pets. You do need to keep an eye on them. They are great hunters and can run off after a rabbit or something & forget about home. Good luck with your little guy.

Posted - Dec 18 2009 : 2:13:27 PM Claudia, I am so happy for you! My husbands family had beagles for years and years, they are so cute and quite the characters to boot! You'll love the new fur baby. Congratulations!
Starmeadow, Is Sophie a little dachshund? They are my true loves! we have two. I am rather sad right now because we just found out our long haired dapple Timmy has degenerative retina disease. He has already lost a good share of his vision. There is nothing you can do for it.But, he is managing with some help from Molly our brownish red one and all of us. MJ

Posted - Dec 18 2009 : 12:32:30 PM Yay! When a bell rings, a beagle gets it wings...or something like that :) I too, am a fan of the beagle, and our Daisy Bad Seed (Kentucky Field Beagle) is the best dog there is. And, to add to our "Christmas" spirit, she has decided to roll in deer and cow dung (from the farm nearby) to add to that lovely "manger" feel/smell.
When I worked at the rural animal shelter, we sent a lot of hounds to rescues, but my favorite rescue (Near Muncie, Indiana) told me that "once you get a hound on the couch, you can never get them off!" It's the truth!!!! Let this be a forewarning :)

Posted - Dec 18 2009 : 10:07:03 AM I grew up with Beagles. Still love to watch them, nose to the ground and their flag (tail)pointed straight up in the air. And no dog sounds sweeter than a beagle baying at something! Congratulations!
