Wool? Or is that too scratchy? Should I just wear two pair at a time? You see, my home office is downstairs where the heater ISN'T and it gets pretty darn cold. I have a space heater and my feet are cold under my desk. Right now I am sitting sideways so my feet are closer to the heater. I am wearing regular socks and lined slippers. They are lined with fake fur. My feet are still cold. Help!

I personally am fond of Wigwam socks. I get them at the local sportsman center. they are def pricey, but I save all fall long and purchase at least 2-3 new pairs in December. I wont live with out these. They are a blend of silk and wool... Love 'em!

I had to laugh when Bear said 50 degrees was cold! That would be a major heatwave here right now! :) Last night we had a low of minus 7 degrees below zero. The windchill factor (what the air feels like) was minus 30 below zero! Can you believe we had an actual air temperature of minus 45 degrees below zero last year? You kind of get used to it, and when it reaches 20 degrees above zero it feels "warm" outside! :) We may warm up to 30 this weekend and I can't wait!

I love my Smartwools, too, and totally swear byt them. My kids also love UnderArmor's winter socks. They are piled like smartwools, but they got some nice tall ones. Make sure you order the thick ones with piling inside them. Not all Smartwool are thick like that. Those are the best ones.

Wow, thanks for all the great advice, ladies!

Today we're in a heatwave - 37 degrees!! YAY!!!

I'll have to look up all the info you gave and do my research. That smartwool sock sounds like the ticket.

Smartwool socks are great, and so is the Fox River womens hiking/walking/casual series. They use Merino Wool, and also a moisture wicking blend. I loooove the arch support and padded footbed in these socks. They are pricey, but worth it in the end.

Wow you guys live where it's COLD!!!Here in Calif. we've just gotten our second big rain and it got pretty cold , in the 40's before that. I've worked outside for thirty years and found the wool socks that have loops on the inside, like a pile are the best for me.Sheepskin slippers only!Silk liners if really cold, for the feet and silk long underwear. I hope for everyone to be warm this Christmas.

Hope all your days are Sunnydays.

I love snowboarding socks. I buy my husband 2 pair every Christmas, then I borrow them. They are super warm and have a nice cushion on the bottom.

The hot chocolate sounds good, but 7 degrees! I would be scared to death just to get to Minnesota! LOL. I'd have to put on 12 layers just to get there. Oh my goodness, now that is cold. I guess all of you up there can't even get out of the house. What do you do, stay in until Spring? Gee! As much as I love cold weather, 50 degrees is cold enough for me. It is 54 today in SW Louisiana, and I am layered up! Fleece socks, fleece pullover, even fleece lined jeans. I'm sure y'all would really get a good laugh at seeing me. Oh, well... please keep warm.

Hey it's a balmy 18 (feels like 2) right now in mid-michigan but the wind! Oh my! I'm not sure why my office is sooooo cold but it is! I left my boots on today for the warmth factor. I bought some long undies yesterday... the old fashioned kind. Nice...last night. Should have just thrown my jeans on over them for today.

Mmmmm...cashmere socks! Alee...in Billings you would certainly know what to reccommend!
Alee Posted - Dec 11 2009 : 07:37:23 AM
smartwools are great- I really love mine. I also love some socks I got at Costco that come in a 3 pack. They are a merino wool/cashmere blend and feel AMAZING!

Here is the website for SmartWool https://www.smartwool.com/default.cfm
I have found them at REI, Nordstroms, small Mom and Pop stores up here in the North Country! I believe you can buy them online at the website above, but they also have a dealer locator that you plug in your town and state so you can find some near you!

I was wondering where you get Smartwool socks. I was intrigued when you said they didnt itch. Wool and my skin usually don't agree...but thought I might check this out.

Thanks,
Tammy

also try this....if you're feet are on the floor, try putting them up on a footstool...cause the coolest air is closest to the floor. I"m not talking about putting them up on your desk, but give a short footstool a try to see if it helps at all....

I am in love with Smartwool socks and tights. They aren't itchy and super warm! They are my current fav!!! If you wear two pairs of socks at a time it constricts bloodflow to your foot and that's not good, so go get some awesome Smartwools and that'll help you out for sure!

I wear a wool/cotten blend sock with a thin cotten sock liner, that way if my feet do sweat, they won't itch from the wool.

Hi Krissy!

The best thing I have found is alpaca. The fiber is very soft and not itchy at all. I wore alpaca socks last year when I helped out at a local ice harvest. It was 18 below zero, and my feet were toasty warm. The only draw-back to alpaca is that it has to be hand washed (or maybe machine washed on gentle) and drip-dried, but.....so worth it!!!
