Gold is a precious metal and has monetary value. It represented Jesus' Kingship.

Myrrh is a resin (dried sap) from the Myrrh tree. It is used in perfumes and incense. It was commonly used as an embalming ointment in Jesus' day. This was a startling gift for a young boy--it represented His death.

Frankincense is another resin, an aromatic one, from the milky sap of the Boswellia Tree. it is used as perfume, incense and in aromatherapy today, and was used in religious rites in Jesus' time. This represented homage to God.

All of these were costly gifts.

We know what the wise men gave, what one gift would you give?

I think I would give eggs. The perfect protein to feed him.

I think I would have brought a little oil lamp, some oil for it, firewood, dried food, and some money. Jesus' family was poor, young, out of town, in a cave, in the winter, delivering their first baby! What a trying situation, requiring faith. And who are the instruments of Gods' help but us? We can still give to Christ when we give to the least of his bretheren, now. This is good to know.

What a wonderful post. I would give Him my time without any limit. That seems so small after what He has done for me.

I love all the things you have posted---

It's funny, but the first thing I thought of was a balnket. I didn't post it because I was not sure if this was the kind of thing that you were looking for. I sure got a smile on my face when I saw Jeannie and Diane post what I thought of. I just thought he always looked like he must of been cold.

I would have given him a little cuddle while Mary rested (he was a baby after all, I have to cuddle babies =)) and a warm soft blankie! I would have shown him how to smile =) Smiles are precious.

I would give his mom a hug. I've always wondered since he knew his purpose as a child did he know his mom would have to witness such torture of her boy.

This is an excellent question and I very hard one to answer. If I was there at the time of his birth I would have liked to have been the one to give him and his parents a warm, soft , comfortable place to stay. I hate the thought of them being in the manger because it must have been drafty.. I understand the humble beginnings but I just don't like the thought of any baby being born in those conditions. But as Jesus Christ ,I would for sure give him my faith in him because we have not seen the most wonderous things yet to come but we have faith that they are there as he has said they will be. believing and faith is all he asks of us because things here on earth really have no meaning.

These thoughts are all so wonderful, but I am still feeling I would have this overhwleming urge to wrap him in a good blanket, and give him a hug. I read somewhere that if the three wise men had been women, there would have been casseroles, bedding, and hot tea. I loved that!

With all due respect;

If I were to present something to Jesus, it would be:

Dinner to celebrate the birth and to restore the fatigue this family must have endured. I would present;
lamb stew
Challah
wine & water

In honor of this family, I would present them with a star of David made from twigs found around home.

For Jesus, I would present him with a handmade Kippah or yamulke as we know them to be called. I would also present him with a handmade, handwoven tallit (prayer shawl).

In celebration of the peacemaker and teacher of love, tolerance and social justice that he was to become, I would bring flowers for the occupying force--the Roman soldiers. ~julia

Yeah, I'm thinking along the same lines: the child part rather than the Christ part. I'd give him a big care package of antibiotics, cough medicine, and baby tylenol from the future. We know he's not going to succumb to infant mortality, but wouldn't that make life easier?
jpbluesky Posted - Dec 03 2009 : 04:56:16 AM
I would give Him my true thanks and praise. And if I had gotten to be one of those who actually saw him as a babe, I would want to give him a blanket.

Ceejay,
I have been married for 32+ years, and My Utmost for His Highest was a wedding gift. Over the years, and through many moves, outside of the country, etc. I got separated from the book. Two years ago for Christmas, my husband bought me a leather bound edition. And of course, I love it. Oswald has so much insight, and his writings never grow old. Truth never changes.

I loved what gramadinah and ruralfarmergirl said. It was faith in Jesus' life, and time. I think these 2 are what I find the hardest and yet most important for me. The wise men had faith that there was someone or something special in the star, and took time to search. There is time daily to seek, and time in committment over the long haul...to give faith time. There in lies the test. Their's was not a sprint, but a marathon. Some say that it took over a year of travel, stopping on the way, maybe questioning themselves & what they were doing. There are circumstances in everyone's life that cause one to question, ME to question my faith,... is God really in charge of this circumstance. I sometimes struggle with this, but Jesus asked if when He returned would He find faith. So my committment is to continue in faith of Him all the time & daily. Come to think of it, I can't do it on my own, only by His gift of grace.

Sheri,
I read "My Utmost for His Highest" EVERY day . . . EVERY YEAR!!! It's always SO-O-O-O timely, sometimes piercing, sometimes convicting, sometimes encouraging!!!
But, my utmost for His Highest is what I truly DESIRE to give!!!! Hard, huh??

Ceejay, I loved your response. I love Oswald Chambers, perhaps you were thinking of him.
That is a tough answer, what to give the one who gave the most and best gift possible. Perhaps my best gift would be, to love, worship and adore Him.
