I am not into the whole "The Holidays as a commercialist venture" thing so I have never done the Black Friday or Blitz shopping before.

However, Doug and I were both in dire straights when it came to our winter cold weather gear. Walmart had some great winter coats with a removeable liner (like Columbia jackets) for $50 normally- on sale during Blitz for $15 a piece. So I drug myself out of bed at 3:30am to make sure I snagged some. I spent $33 because I also got Nora a pair of Tinkerbell jammies for $3.

Overall I am proud of myself. I helped a couple fellow shoppers while I was there and got some much needed items at a screaming discount. Yay! Now my poor uncomplaining hubby won't be cold when I ask him to go scrap the car windows in the morning! LOL

That is funny Teresa! Actually everyone was being really polite. I had a great conversation with a lady while I waited for the clock to tick over to 5 am. This lady's husband takes and extra job as Santa Claus during the holidays and every extra penny they make goes to a fund to buy an outfit (pants and shirt and sometimes a jacket if on sale) and a toy for families that are having a hard time making ends meet. She also works with the schools on a program where the same kids get their backpacks filled with enough food to feed them through the weekend every Friday. Some of these kids don't eat all weekend otherwise and only get to eat breakfast and lunch at school through the assistance programs. No dinners. Hearing that just broke my heart. Here was this lady who had been at Wal-Mart since 1 am so that her and her husband could get these essentials for families that just aren't making it. We talked about the Angel Food Ministries and she is going to talk to the director of the organization that she works hand-in-hand with and see if they can somehow get them coming up to this area. I bet they could bring 5 semis up here and there would still be demand for it each week!

This is funny, just hung up from my daughter, (she lives in Burbank, the city), she was at Wal-mart at 3am also. She informed me her shopping is done for all the kids, and she spent less than a 1/4 of the non-sale prices total. There is no way I would EVER go to a black friday sale, cause I would probally get arrested after I decked some rude @#%&*$#@ for grabbing something I already had in my hand, lol.

YAY ! I hate to think of you and Doug going cold. Way to go Alee!
I am not good with big crowds, so stay away as much as possible on Black Friday and the weekend =)
But, I'm glad that everyone else gets the great deals!

I've never done the day after Thanksgiving bit-not my cup of tea but I do understand going for the deep discounts! Fantastic buys you got there-and keeping warm is important.

YAY for good deals Alee. I have heard a lot about Black Friday lol, and it is not something I would do either. But with these kind of deals, mmmmm
Nope it is not here.
