Okay
I have been hearing this loud ( really loud) moan full sound out side my bedroom window ; quite often
when I get up to see what it is ; there isn't anything; or it is gone by the time I look
I am thinking maybe a deer?
this morning and last night it make the noise 2 times in a row
Really loud
Yet,
Hubby and son does not hear it.
Mind you I have lost most of my hearing ; but it is really loud
you know something silly?
Since hubby shot the 8 pointer yesterday
I am had the strange thought maybe it's mate or it had come back to haunt us.
But, I have been hearing that sound since we have been down here
I know what the cows and the bulls sound like at night.
so it isn't them.
I know I am crazy lol hugs sheila

Thanks for the replies.
I really don't think it is a cow though
I haven't seen peacocks down here; but that doesn't mean we don't have them
Son, said he heard a bunch of cayotes here at the house about a night or 2 ago.
he said they were yapping and making a lot of noise
I am a light sleeper .
I must have been dead to the world . ha.

I've never heard a deer make a moaning sound, but I've heard them make a sound like a cat hissing. I'm wondering too if it isn't a cow, or maybe an owl. I doubt that the buck would come back to haunt you. could it be a peacock? they make some pretty weird noises.

The only reason the buck would come back to haunt, would be, because he was killed out of anger, that his spirit was insulted. Plus, he would come back to haunt your hubby, not you.
Without hearing the sound you are talking about, it would be quite hard to determine what it is. Also since neither your hubby or son are hearing it, so I am wondering if you are dreaming.
If you lived in the deep south, in the swamps, It could be a swamp cat, a panther, they make a moaning sound, as well as a sound that sounds like a banshe screaming. I've never heard a cougar sound like that, nor a bear, but thats my opinion.

Sheila, I was thinking cow. When the people across the road take the calves away, the cows make the saddest moaning noise. I just want to cry. But it could be the buck come back to haunt you, too! Ya never know. But I sure hope you find out what it is.

Mountain lion or bear were the two things that we have around here that might make a sound like that...

And don't worry about a mate coming to look...bucks are "wham bam thank you mam" sorts and there is no "mate connection" so to speak. ;)

do you have large cats around? they can make that sound. That's the only thing I can think of except maybe a coyote doing a throaty growl.
