I am not sure if I've got this in the right place or not. I completely understand if it needs to be moved to a different heading.

So, here goes:
A while back, I posted prayers for Tori. She was having awful night terrors and no one was getting any sleep. They went away for quite a while, but tonight, she woke up with arms flailing, sweating buckets, and whining unintelligibly.
I feel so bad for her as I can no longer pick her up and there isn't much lap left for her to sit on so I can comfort her. I don't know what to do for her. She can't tell me what she wants because nothing seems to make sense.
I am struggling with making sure that I am doing the best I can and knowing that it might not be enough in this case.
I have been careful of her sugar intake and not changing her routine very much.
She had a sleepover at my Mom's for the first time. It was her first sleepover. Maybe she was too young to do this with? I don't know. Could that set her off?
I am trying to understand what is going on in her little mind.

Well, anyways, thanks for letting me vent/express what's going on in my neck of the woods.
hugs,

Jessie

Oh gosh, I hope it was not caused by the sleepover.
We had a good time. We watched a couple of movies. They were kids movies so nothing scary. We talked to my sister on the phone for a quick chat and she fell asleep around 11:30 and slept through the night. I can't imagine what is causing her to have these again. Praying they will go away or find the cause.

My son was doing the same thing, even stopped breathing a couple times. It is very scary. My son was about 4 and done this for a long time. I spoke to the dr and he thought maybe he was having light seizure activity also. So we cut him way back on some nintendo games he was playing and they got better. After a while they stopped altogether.

Jess, the doctors told me one time to keep the sugar and red food coloring down, that helped some I also had to be very careful what mine watched on tv, even if I was watching it too, they picked up on me getting upset thats one reason I quit watching the news. I am praying for you and little Tori! Blessings,Karen

Do a food diary! My nephew had night terrors and they linked it to any time he ate at McDonalds. Something they use in their food didn't sit right in his body. It could be something natural or an additive. So I would right down what she had each day adn then highlight the days when a night terror resulted. Maybe you will see a pattern. We do this with Nora because she has cerebral allergies taht affect her emotions/behavior (Check out my allergy blog for more details about that).

Have you every tested her for gluten intolerence? Or jus food allergies? A friends daughter was/is alergic to many things but the night terrors was a side of them.

unfortunately, Tori has found her way to becoming a co-sleeper. I am not happy with this, but have not found a way to resolve it either. She does better when she sleeps in our room, but it leaves little privacy for Hubby and I as anytime during the night she just walks in and makes herself at home.

Teresa--Hubby has done the radio thing every since I can remember. I will definitely give it a try. It may be helpful in the nursery for all of the children to have that white noise.

Thanks for the input girls!
hugs

Jessie

Jessie, My sisters daughter had night terrors also, my sister would hold her till she calmed down, but some nights it would happen multiple times, and then a neighbor told her to put a radio in her room, on a soft music station, down pretty low, on the nightstand. It made a huge differance right away, the terrors got less violent and shorter in duration, till they were gone completly. These terrors are not an uncomman problem with children, the Dr said it is due to a childs inability to shut off their minds completly, so they can go into a deep sleep. I know some Dr.'s want to prescribe drugs, that was something my sister would never do. So when the radio worked, it was a celabration.

Hello Jesse,

My nephew seemed to have the same problems your having with your child. What my sister did to help fix it... fixed a toddler sized pile of blankets (Makeshift bed) in her bedroom on her side of the bed. (Her side of the bed is the closest near the wall so he has his own little safe corner.) With doing this the night terrors have subsided a little bit, so it helped some but not completely. I think my nephew sleeping in his parents room helped because he felt safe. She does not make a habit of this but he probably sleeps in her room 3 nights a week. He is only 4, so they're trying to still have their privacy too.
