and we found out he does have a very mild form of age related macular degeneration. (I didn't know it was due to age...I thought it was something you just got,like glaucoma)It can be slowed to a crawl by using a special eye vitamin packet. The cataracts surgery is still on for 11/3 but I gotta say I was very bummed at hearing this after his cataracts dr was convinced it wasn't macular degeneration. I'm really hoping that after the cataracts are removed he can have decent vision for the next 10 years or so...he's so into the visual arts like taking photos,etc. Good thing I'm learning to drive! He's regretting now not getting this looked into 5 years ago when his optometrist noticed what she felt was scar tissue on the retina-while she advised he get it looked at,he never bothered with it. So,I'm glad the news wasn't worse but not real thrilled for him,either.

Sometimes, we just have to take over things for our parents
My hubby's family had to do the same with his dad
He died this past March he was 91
lived a long live
My dad died about 5 years ago due to cancer
sometimes;
we just have to do what we can and not look back
I know it is hard

Not beating myself up over it-didn't even have a car I could learn in 5 years ago-driving his Ford Ranger is impossible for me or I would've learned several years back. I'm not sure how Dad is handling it at this point-he admitted to me that this "is his own fault for not getting an annual eye test" Which he hasn't done in 4 years. I just am bummed for him and wonder what's meant by "mild" and how much they can slow the progression of the degeneration. He has been taking antioxidants for the past 7 years,and I hear that slows it down quite a bit. Your prayers are very much appreciated...

Don't beat yourself up about this. I was diagnoed with scar tissue on the retina of my left eye when I was 40. I am 60 now, and thank God, it is the same as it was 20 years ago. I keep wondering when it will morph into something else. But I did not want surgery on my eye then, and I am glad I chose that option. Praying for you both.
