LOL Leslie! We have put all sorts of things at the end of the driveway. My favorite was a patio table and some chairs. A young boy (maybe 9 or 10 or so) came along in a van, yes, he was driving it (he was a migrant worker) and took it away. LOL!!

I die of embarrassment every time my hubby sticks something on the corner with a free sign on it...and I can't help but watch until someone slams on their brakes and makes off with it!
Heather, the visual of you in your crocs and jammy pants and glasses will stay with me all day. Thank you for that :p

Heather . . . you are a girl after my own heart!!! Good for you!!!

I found a little tapestry covered footstool on top of a dumpster (like for rural customers) while out on a walk . . I carried it home . . .3 miles!!!

My hubby is a great scavenger/scrounger and found the cutest metal outdoor chairs, only child-sized, in a dumpster. They sit on my deck with my other deck decor . . .modern and old.

It IS amazing what people throw away!!!

Happy Hunting!!

oh, I too am such a scavenger! I scored the best couch from a dumpster. did the sniff test, no cat pee! i'm sitting on it right now. I've gotten a ton of things, and will not stop!

I think my farvorite thing about "free" stuff, is that I never get buyers regret and I am completely content with these things. I would freak out about the style being perfect and my ideas for what I want is always changing, but if I get it for free, I'm just fine with it. I can make it work! makes me glad to be a little poor, cause taking what I can get and being happy that I have one at all is a whole lot better than having all the money in the world and looking for perfect. cause perfect doesn't exist!

good job on your find! I'm a little jealous over here, solid wood! ::swoon::

Heather, the thougth of you sneaking down the road with that table and tripping made me howl! Hope nothing more than your dignity was bruised!

It is an addiction! Once you get a nice "something" for free you can't stop looking for more. I was lucky enough late last week to get an all metal patio table and 4 matching chairs for free. Just had a bit of rust on them but hey, isn't that what sandpaper and paint are for? DH was skeptical until he saw them and said yes, I brought home some keepers! Yippee!

You go, Heather! I'm forever slamming on the brakes when I see good stuff in a trash pile! I think I embarrass my dh, but after 17 years, you'd think he'd get used to it! I've come up with some great things!

I'd have alerted the neighbors and all the neighborhood dogs with my giggling as I lay there. I can hear the barking now. Good for you on your sneaky score...big smile.

I miss that. We dont have the same quality of garbage here as we did in MD. Most people throw out the good stuff before they get here. Those were also fun nights scavaging.

Sad to say my neighbor put out a good used computer monitor for free and nobody took it because they must have thought it was junk. We suggested putting $25 on it and low and behold it was "stolen" that next night.
Congrats! on your new find!

When I moved into my first apartment, I had a single mattress, a 13" black and white TV, a small round table and ONE chair! It took six months or so, but I furnished the entire place from other people's garbage. People throw out great stuff!

My husband began putting things at the end of the driveway with a "free" sign years ago. It's the perfect solution for things that aren't needed anymore, but too good to trash. It's amazing what people will take.

Oh dont worry Id have been trying to sneak over before you got there if they lived near me! hehe
It is amazing what people throw out! Some people I guess just have so much money they throw it away. So you are the lucky one.

HA!! True..I was just trying to be quiet!!! ; )

The neighbors are selling their house, so they started cleaning out...I snagged a brand new cat carrier and that little table. I am cringing at what they are throwing out that I can't see!!! Yes...it is an illness...but the table is solid wood, so I will take the fall..ha ha ha...
