So, we went to our favorite spot for apple picking yesterday. It's our yearly trip. It seems this place has become more of a tourist attraction than really an apple orchard now. Yes, they do have a great selection of apples but they're squeezing out every $$ they can from you.

You have to pay for parking now. They have tons of rides & other attractions for the kids - none are cheaper than $3.00 per ride. We ate breakfast there (which is how we found the orchard in the first place) That price wasn't bad. But everything else. You can't buy less than 1/2 bushel of apples (you pick) - anything smaller you have to select from the bins and pay $1.90 lb. We always buy 1/2 bushel - but it was $40.00 this year! My Mom wanted less, but wanted to pick her own.

Then there's the petting zoo. The animals water had mosquito larvae in it! Ready to hatch! They were squirming all around. No one seemed to care. They have signs up about not feeding the animals corn because they don't want them to get sick. Well, what about the water? I need to call someone today about that. That's horrible! You know they haven't had fresh water in awhile.

Sorry to rant. I'm wondering what a normal price is for 1/2 bushel. And who do I call about those animals?

Thanks, I'll have to see what county they're in - it was in Wisconsin.

Call you county's animal control and ask them to do an animal welfare check. Also let them know they are running a petting zoo. Most states have specific requirements for a petting zoo operation and they might not have the proper paperwork.
