Posted - Sep 03 2009 : 5:07:42 PM I have posted baskets on my blog before, and just put up a new photo of a few of the baskets in my laundry area. I thought hmmmm.....laundry and baskets, they go together. Actually I was wanting somewhere to put them where I could see and enjoy them.

Posted - Sep 05 2009 : 2:22:07 PM Jeannie you have done a great job to make a unwelcome area look so inviting. I love it when unlikely items are used like lanterns on the shelf, it draws you in. Really nice! I only use the word unwelcome because laundry it not my favorite thing to do. LOL Smiles, Melody June

Posted - Sep 04 2009 : 11:17:17 AM Thanks for looking. I got a 2 new baskets a couple of weeks ago with my sister in Illinois. And I was telling her what a good deal you can get right now on Ebay, because no one is bidding, etc. She said, what do you do with all those things? (she does not collect baskets, as you can tell). I said, well I store toilet paper, I use them for wastebaskets, food holders, napkin holder, bread on the table, holding yarn and art supplies, holding my grandchildrens toys and diapers, magazines, fresh washcloths in the bath, and I went on and on. Finally, she said okay, okay! :) There is an infinite use for baskets!!!

Posted - Sep 04 2009 : 06:11:49 AM Aren't baskets so much fun. When I lived at home, I started collecting baskets. I only had a few. By the time I had been married three years, I had the whole dining room wall around hanging with baskets. They made their way into the living room walls and some setting around. They are really addictive and you can't beat a pretty basket to add charm to things.
I love it, Jeannie--the original dirt! AWESOME!! hugs
Jessie

Posted - Sep 04 2009 : 05:31:31 AM I got the large round one more than 30 years ago. It is, if I remember right, a rice basket, used to harvest in the wet rice fields. Somebody correct me if they know more about that type of basket!
I have collected baskets for 40 years or so. Not that I have a lot of them, just sometimes I find one that speaks to me. The picnic is a Longaberger I got for hosting a basket party back in the early 90's. The one on top of it I got from Ebay for 9.00! It comes from Kansas, and is an old buttocks egg basket. I love that one because it still has it's original dirt! :)
The small picnic type is an old, old school lunch basket. There is a name on the top, so faded I can't read it. I could always picture someone walking to a country school with it filled with lunch for a child. Thanks for looking at my baskets! I will post another photo of the other part of my laundry closet later!
Nance, I love the name Basket Case....that is great!

Posted - Sep 04 2009 : 01:19:35 AM Beautiful display; funny how we love these baskets? Don't they just exude an aura of calm and harvest and tidyness (or at least the intention of tidyness!). I used to want to own a store and call it The Basket Case. But I would probably never be able to actually sell any of them! Hugs, Nance |
