Posted - Aug 06 2009 : 12:45:08 AM ...........the Perseid Meteor Showers. It should be August 11th and 12th. I do this every year. When my kids were young we would sleep outside and try to stay awake and watch them.
Here is a great site to read about it: http://www.skyandtelescope.com/observing/highlights/52204947.html
Meteor watching is great "eyeball astronomy." Find a spot with an open view of the sky, wrap up warmly in winter clothes or a sleeping bag, and use mosquito repellent where you're not wrapped. Lie back in a lounge chair and watch whatever part of your sky is darkest. Be patient. You may see a meteor zipping into the upper atmosphere every few minutes on average.
Enjoy--MB

Posted - Aug 07 2009 : 10:27:25 AM and on the 26th of August, Venus or Mars (can't remember which) will appear in the sky the same size of the moon! Hope it isn't cloudy then....hope Mars or Venus remembers to move a little away from us as it passes by.....

Posted - Aug 06 2009 : 11:39:06 AM Thanks Marybeth, I also did this a few years ago and it was a fantastic thing to see. I felt I could just reach out and touch them, they seemed so close. Thanks for the reminder. Hope everyone gets to enjoy them.
