My husband's birthday is today, and our 8th anniversary tomorrow. As we get longer into these "combined" special occasion days, I like to get something that is a larger combined gift. So, he wanted a Ipod, and bought one used--I personally could care less about those thingees, but he wanted one something awful, and not the cheap one, because he has this ginormous selection of music (some rarities) that he wants to keep track of....

Anyway, since we have Violet now, I am kicking myself because we don't have a camcorder. I found a really good one (well recommended) on QVC (I know, I know...) and it's a nice introductory price and I can handle the payments...What do you think? Dumb gift for his birthday/our anniversary?

That's a great idea and it's a gadget so he will be sure to love it.

I think that was a great idea, Jonni! The video cameras are so nice to have, especially with children around!!

You could have a video of Violet prerecorded on it for him to see when he opens it!!

Miss Wilma, I got it today! It actually came on Friday, but I was out of town in Grove City visiting relatives. Thank you sooooo much! We are getting Violet's "Papa" in line for pictures, and your dresses will be the stars!!!!

Hope you are well?

Thanks, girls....Got it! I'm usually not so much for "electronics" but this birthday seems to be shaping up to that! He really wanted that I-Pod in the worst way, and I just couldn't see it...I know it's not about me, though, right? So, glad he got that, and now with the camcorder, he can "tech" himself crazy!!! It came in black, red and blue...I chose blue :)

Get it! Little Violet will not be so little for long, and you'll want to revisit these days and her incredible baby cuteness.

Go for it---you will never regret having one and recording those growing moments of Violet.

If he's expressed interest in having one, then go for it!

no, i think in the long run he will like that more because it will capture family moments that he can look back on

Combined..usually something for both his birthday and our anniversary. Since he already bought himself the Ipod, that negated my original purchase which was an under the counter cd/radio/dvd player because he likes to listen to music while cooking and doing the dishes. The Ipod has a docking station and all that garbage, so it does the duty of my original gift.

He always laments that we don't have one to capture little things that she does, or the dogs, or what have you. He's not much of a picture taker, I will say that. He just never thinks of it, but I think he might be more inclined to have the videos.

I usually try to get something sentimental, but for some reason, I'm really stumped this year with gift giving. Nothing seems "good enough" for the monumental year we've had, and nothing really stands out, either. The camcorder was sort of an "aha!" moment (and those, unfortunately, have been fleeting)...

When you say a "combined gift", do you mean that the two of you pick out something together to get for yourselves/the household? Or do you mean a gift from you to him for both birthday and anniversay?

If it's the first option, I think the camcorder would be a great idea. But if it's the second, you should probably make sure first that shooting home movies is something he would get a kick out of. Gifts should be fun and/or beautiful first and foremost, that's my credo.

Not at all! It'll be a great way to record special moments together: birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, etc. That seems like a perfect birthday/anniversary gift! :)
