..just dislike?? We've been talking about the kind of music you like to listen to, lol. But there are bound to be some kinds of music/songs that you turn off asap?? I know I HAVE !!

My # 1 song that is absolutely HATE is THRILLER by Michael Jackson.
The reason? it scares the beehind off of me, lol. I so dislike it, I dislike the video made, I dislike the song, I dislike the scary voice talking through it, BBBRRR. I always see the zombies in that video whenever I just hear it. As a matter of fact, that is why I am here right now, on my puter. It is playing on the radio!!!

And also the kind of music I just don't like to listen to is the hard rock. The loud music the screaming kind? Heavy metal.
Guns and Roses, Deep Purple, Uriah Heep and all that sort. (I am showing my age, are these bands still around?? lol)

SO what are your hates/dislikes??

basically, i'm with you gals... i HATE rap, too. when i went to my best friend's wedding in May, they always had these rap radio stations on (we were in the big city of Phoenix, AZ). it was all i could do to not tear my hair out!!! i don't like anything that sounds like the people are mad... like the screaming stuff. i can do without all this new music. there's not much of it i like, it all sounds the same to me. one new artist i DO like is regina spektor, she has a very unique voice and style. and i have a soft spot in my heart for Darren Hayes (from Savage Garden)... he's my pop guilty pleasure.

maybe we should start a thread of music we DO like?

RAP music or anything that even resembles it. It shows total disrespect in sooo many areas and lack of respect for women.

I can't stand RAP, death metal, thrash and techno. Not too crazy about Jazz and R&B. Love Country, classic rock and Classical especially Yo Yo Ma's beautiful cello pieces.

Well, I'm a music teacher and was always told by the music professors that I shouldn't dislike any kind of music. But- I do. I dislike RAP. Can't understand it, and I don't like the lyrics to most of it. I love classical music, especially Mozart and Beethoven. I love country music.

HATE the rap, not a huge classical or opera person. I like certain songs of light rock and country. I'll have to admit though....I'm like 2 generations behind myself. You all remember that Loretta Lynn song "one's on the way"?....that seems to be my life these last 5 years!!!
Like Johnny Cash and those old singers!!

I really don't like disco and opera at all... I like some of most everything else. I do like hard rock, some AC/DC hits the spot now and then for sure, certainly not all of it or all of anything. I don't care for blue grass. I like some newer and older country.I love Foriegner and Journey they are 2 of my favorite bands. Love Bob Segar, John Mellencamp( liked him as John Cougar too!) Love Rod Stewart. Love Kid Rock , like the Black Eyed Peas Hey, I guess I like a lot more than I don't like!! Sorry got carried away here!

I don't like "gangsta" rap; but There are a few Eminem songs I like. (I'm really showing my younger age, here, I think....)
One group that I literally cannot abide hearing one note from is the counrty band Sugarland! I completely dislike Jennifer Nettle's voice....there's twang (Reba) and then there's "fake" twang, and Sugarland is fake twang in my book. (Sorry to all the Sugarland fans, I really am.) Other than that I pretty much don't dislike much music at all............

I have yet to hear a Rap song that I like. I grew up listening to everything. My mom iked country, my dad liked big band, my oldest brothers and sisters liked rock and my next older brother liked motown.

My personal favorite is pop. I LOVE it.It just takes me to a happy place. Nothing like the BackStreet Boys to make me smile!

I worked in the music business for years and I HAD to listen to things I didnt like. You get used to it and sort of tune it out.

I know I am in the minority, but I don't really care for ANY music that much! I don't like rap, new country, contemporary Christian, heavy metal, or electronica. On the rare occasion I listen to music, it's either bluegrass or folk / indie. I do like John Mellencamp.

Gotta be Rap for me too. I can hardly believe they allow that sort of language on the airwaves. Disgusting!

Right now, I'm kinda tired of hearing Michael Jackson songs. Not because I dislike them, it's just a bit much. I find myself singing one or more of them all day.

Oh, lord. I'd almost forgotten about the hair bands. My girl scout troop took a field trip to see Nelson at a local theme park in about 1991. Anybody remember them? I think I must have been traumatized, I'm still trying to block that from my memory.

I do have a soft spot in my heart for Metallica. My younger sister was a big fan during our high school years. I keep meaning to watch that documentary.

And I'm not really counting groups like Run DMC when I say hip hop. Sadly, modern hip hop is not nearly so classy.
moxieblossom Posted - Jul 30 2009 : 07:12:10 AM
Music I hate... hmmm... that's hard. I hate to count a genre out entirely, because there's always one or two artists that prove me wrong. LOL

I guess newer rap would be a big dislike... the "gangsta" stuff. I like oooooooold-school 80's-era rap like Rapper's Delight or anything by MC Hammer, or sometimes Will Smith, it's usually not dirty and you can understand what they're saying. I also like funk/disco type stuff, especially while cleaning. :)

I also strongly dislike hair/death/thrash metal, the kind with just screaming, although I do like rock in general, depends on my mood! ;)

Other than that, I listen to pretty much anything from rock to classical to musicals to soundtrack/instrumentals to new wave to electronica to country... it all depends on the artist. There's a lot of popular music I hate and a lot of really obscure stuff I love.

My absolute favorite music though, is bluegrass/newgrass and the new up-and-coming old-timey bands like Old Crow Medicine Show, Hackensaw Boys, Crooked Still, Infamous Stringdusters, and so on.

I get tired of any music that is played over and over...hence most top 40 and even some rock stations.

There are so many awesome songs out there.

Even the station that plays jazz on the weekends plays the same musack too much.

FebruaryViolet Posted - Jul 30 2009 : 06:44:54 AM
I hate mainstream music...typically anything that is played on your most common radio stations. I also hate "hair metal" and "death metal". Honestly, I haven't listened to a "music" radio station since 1989. Seriously...if I'm not using I-tunes, then it's music that's being reviewed on NPR which is NEVER mainstream :)

My husband turns into an absolute monster if he hears any sort of Indian or middle eastern ethnic music--the beat makes him really hepped up and nervous! So, we don't go to Mediteranean restaurants where they have the drum circles and dancers--Boy, would THAT make for a bad datenight!

Amie! That's a HIlarious description!!!

I hate rap/hip-hop and alot of the 'new' country (Rascal Flatts, the stuff that sounds more "pop") ..the stuff that is very overly-produced.... I don't like metal for the most part...that Buzz Rock stuff.... I love the older country and classic rock ...

Belle, I have a feeling you'd like rap even less if you COULD understand the words.

I can't stand hip hop/R&B/Top 40. It's all essentially softcore porn set to music (sorry if that's too strongly phrased).

Bellepepper Posted - Jul 30 2009 : 06:25:14 AM
I don't like rap because I can't understand what they are saying. I HATE hard rock. It is just noise. There is no tune to what they are playing or singing. Did I say singing? I say, "If you can't hum it, it ain't music". I like old country. New country is too rocky. I like christian music but not christian rock. And I like classical.

I don't like rap and I also don't like the Neighbors who think they have a really good band. They practice ALL the time. I'm really not hearing any improvement. We are hoping they get so good they make the big time and move on.

For me it is "RAP". I think it is mostly because I know that most of it probably has bad language and is soo disrespectful to women. Am I showing my age here??
