Debbie,
The book and everything else has been taken. I was so surprised how fast everything went! Thank you for asking about it.

That sounds fascinating, Nancy Jo. Nothing like a great history lesson in one person's voice.

Nancy...I am a huge Elinore Stewart fan. I've read her "Letters of a Woman Homesteader" 15-20 times. I read it for inspiration. I'd love to trade you something for it....what do ya need (or want)?

That does sound interesting! I love reading personal accounts of different times. I think that is why I loved the Laura Ingalls Wilder books so much.

Nancy, Your little tidbit caught my eye. I lover anything about the Civil War. I haven't read either one of the ladies that you have mentioned and it sounds very interesting to me. During the Civil War my family owened a plantation in Charleston, S.C. that was taken over by Shermans Army. Also a great-great uncle was portmaster in Charleston S.C. before the war. So I'm very interested in all of that. Thanks for the input ladies.

That sounds like a really great book. I used to read the America journals a while back. Don't know whatever happened to my copies of those. IT was awesome to read what life was like before me and how things came about nowadays because of what happened then. Such rich history and you don't even realize you are learning and taking it all in. :D

Hi Nancy,
I looked for Sarah's, but I couldn't find it. I did find Mary Pringles, though. She was from South Carolina and it was a very good book. If you want it, let me know and I will get it out to you.

Sounds like a neat book, Nancy. Would be curious as to the viewpoint of a teen during that time.

We have a book called "Mother's of Invention" that is full of excerpts from journals of southern women during the Civil War. Mary Chestnut is featured prominently, as she was a prolific writer, but honestly, I hate reading her missives. Her views on slavery are simply repugnant to me (I know, I know, it was a different time, different culture) but still...I think it's because as a woman, I don't appreciate her callous offerings.

I love books like that, too! Have you read Mary Chestnuts Civil War or Sarah Morgan's or Mary Pringles? They were all amazing. My favorite was Sarah Morgan's. They were all confederate ladies. I would love to read a union lady's diary and see the world through her eyes. Enjoy your book and let us know how it is.

I'd like to read that. I think it's quoted in a good book I read about Gettysburg last summer. I'll have to look for it up here.

I've read Betsy-Tacy too. It's a cute story, I think you'll like it.
