I ask and he keeps finding other things to do. He set up the trash system here (we have to haul it to the dump place so trash has to be 'stored' for a little bit) but the lovable man can find more excuses not to haul it outta here.

Other than that, he's a real peach!!

I love that! Although he might tell me he looked hot because it was hot.

I bundle it up and then I hand it to him and I have already placed a line of cookies to the large trash cans out doors he follows and eats the cookies and then he will usualy forget he has the trash in his hands so I have to make sure that I have enough cookies to make him drop the trash to pick up all the cookies. No really he didn't even know that the trash has to be taken to the center that we don't have curb service for trash so I do it.

Tracy, Does he fix the car and shovel snow? Oh, your from California, does he mow the lawn? My husband's only job is to keep my car running and shovel snow when I can't lift it. I do everything else. But, I like it that way.(Most of the time) Also if I wanted him to do it he would.

Hope all your days are Sunnydays.

This is easy to answer-- I DON'T do anything. It doesn't work no matter WHAT I do. My husband wouldn't take the garbage out if the bags were stacked to the ceiling. He doesn't believe in doing ANYTHING that remotely resembles HOUSEWORK! sigh.......

There usually is no problem with my dh taking the garbage out...though, I do tend to stack it much to high and then he gets mad at me!!!

Where I used to live my girlfriend and I always took the garbage out. She would put it in her car drive up to my house and we would take my and we would drive to the dumps and get rid of everything. Then we would go for a car ride, go shopping or grab lunch. Every Saturday for 20+ years. The husbands thought it took 2 hours to do the garbage run. Now I live in the city. Getting rid of garbage is so easy, we put it in big garbage totes and Wed. A.M. roll them o the curb. It takes about 5 minutes. My girlfriend and I miss those garbage runs. Her husband does it all in 20 minutes. I still do my own, as my DH would miss 1/2 of the garbage.

Hope all your days are Sunnydays.

Well, personally I have found it just is not a big deal. If I sit it out, intending to take it out myself, my husband will usually take it out if he sees it. Sometimes he just forgets. But he does so many other things, I dont mind taking it out. I read something one time about muddy boots on a clean floor. A friend was visiting a lady who had just mopped her floor. And the ladies husband came in with muddy boots walked across the floor and went back outside without even acknowledging his mess. The lady visiting was outraged at his carelessness. The lady just replied, that she would rather have muddy foot prints and know her husband was still with her. Because those foot prints meant, he was still around.
I have had this same issue, but have chosen to be glad for those muddy footprints.
Thirty two years next month, and it just keeps getting better and better.

Hubby has always done this
When we were married over 34 years ago he said that was a
"Man's" job
so far he has done pretty good
when we move to the farm in the country; he will have to take it down to the end of the long dry road and a man will take it to the dump.
good thing hubby has a small truck.
good luck about getting hubby to do his job. hugs sheila

Melody June, very good advice!! Will do! Actually I was laffing at how he looked when I asked him if he were my love machine. I make sure to snuggle up to him and 'let' him be my protector from the big, bad world. Like you, I actually drove a SHIP (helmsman) in the Navy plus I'm a big rig driving cowgirl (the real deal, not drugstore) and can do pretty much anything I want...BUT I do need him to protect and love me! Really, I do. Gots me a real catch! :-)

Ya'll are hilarious! I too, turn on the charm...heavily. And just for that, today I get to go purchase a vintage enamel top table for my kitchen! All I did last night was tell him how hot I thought he looked working on the tractor..... it's a good life!

Winona Farmgirl friend, you have not lost this battle yet!!!
Have you forgotten how to use your southern charms?? I know by your name "WINONA" you indeed have southern blood in those veins. Oh MY, I will have to give a lesson in charming a knot out of a log! Ladies we all have "The God Given Gift of Charm"! Some have just let it get rusty and we need to get some oil on it. LOL
Lesson 1. YOU MUST make his think he is your love machine (yes, even if he's not) just because their ego's are very fragile.
2. When you need that trash hauled off, you just PUT on your Come Thither look, snuggle up close (they love that, makes them feel strong) and remind him of his new "Love Machine" name. Now NO laughing this time.
3. You tell him your going to go draw a very hot bubble bath for yourself and when He get's back from taking the trash to the dump your going to push ALL the "ON" buttons to his machine. While that look is still on his face, you slowly get up and ask him to please not keep you waiting to long. Yes, leave him there gasping for air and go turn the water on in the tub.
4. Enjoy your bubble bath, put on a DRESS (come on it can be a simple sun dress, just no pants!!) and quickly prepare his dinner. When he pulls into the driveway, run turn the shower on for him (remember he's been to the dump) and when he walks through that door just say "I've got your shower running, now don't be long I don't want your dinner to be cold". I'm telling you, you've got him hook line and sinker!!!!
Now DON"T get me wrong here. I can swing a splitting maul with the best of them. I was a JET Mechanic for 10 years. I just chose what things I want to do. LOL I did not get my 3 strand set of Pearls by nagging. WHOOOHAAAHaaa
Now get in there Winona, try again, you can do this!

I asked my hubs if he knew he was my 'love machine' and for once, for ONCE! I had him flustered!! hehehe... "Where in the h*ll did THAT come from?" he asked me while I was laffing my head off. I'm telling you, the LOOK on his face!! Priceless!

My friend Sandy and I had a discussion about this once. Neither one of our husbands ever took out the trash. When we lived in town I would get up early on garbage day to take the trash down to the curb because dogs would tip the cans over and string stuff around. I don't like to pick up garbage.

Anyway, one very early morning my DH sat straight up in bed and said "Quick! What time does the garbage truck come?" I was a little confused so he repeated it. I said "Six o'clock.....yesterday."
He was so surprised. He asked since when did the garbage truck come on Wednesdays. I told him twenty years ago. From that day on he has taken out the trash. In the beginning Sandy said it would never last. It was just something new and he'd get over it but, so far.......

I think they're just oblivious.

It's not about being perfect, but enjoying what you do. Set aside time to be creative.

I have the opposite problem. Trash goes out Monday am, DH empties everything Sunday PM. Not allowed to put anything in the trashcan after he empties on Sunday! If you do, he walks around with a trash bag and takes it out!

Not complaining, at least he takes it out :)

That was a good one Dawn!! I set the garbage bags and the recycle
bins on the front porch right in front of the steps, so he has to trip over them to get in the house. That always works.

I usually tell him to be rude, take her someplace cheezy, and pick his teeth in public. That usually takes care of the trash around here! HAHAHAHA!

I think this is a trick question but I'll go for it anyway. LOL For 32 years I've learned to pick my battles wisely. I will disreguard the fact that I'd love to be the one going to the dump, I'd just know there were treasures there for me to pick up. But never mind me, find out how to hire a high school boy. Here in TX we have AG classes and someone there always needs extra money to buy feed for their soon to be Prize Winning Fair animals. Then over dinner just in passing tell your "love machine" that you realize how busy he really is and you are going to hire a school boy to do the trash for him, just to ease his work load. He'll either know he married the only woman in the world that really understands him and say ok, OR without a word he'll load the truck and be off to the dump without you even knowing it.
