Ok, so I got bit by the camper bug and have been looking for a very small camper, (in need of repair) to fix up and pull along behing my 1991 Ford Ranger Truck. After seeing all the pictures from MJ's BBB, I am on a mission to get "my" camper together and head to Idaho next year or the year after. I found one for $500.00 but the roof was ready to fall in. I found another one in some weeds of a nearby farmer, but it looked like he grew some sort of animals in it. It smelled bad....so I'll keep on looking....

I was laughing yesterday thinking that I'd probably "foof chick" a camper so much that my DH wouldn't want to sleep in it...he's such a manly-man...lol. I think the "Shasta Daisies" are so cute. Have ya seen the campers that U-Haul make? They are adorable too! I could see one of those with an awesome paint job on the sides.....
Doesn't cost anything to dream does it?

I lived in a vintage trailer for about the first 15 years of my life. No indoor facilities, no hot water; in fact, no water at all. There was one bedroom and we three kids shared it. I was the tallest and my brother slept at my feet. I always had cold wet feet in the morning. Not a pleasant thought these days. Our trailer was 27 feet long and 8 feet wide with five people living in it. IMAGINE the complaints one would receive about the abuse these days!!! Well, that's the way it was and we were happy to have a roof (nonleaking) over our heads.

Debbie - how far are you willing to travel? My husband is always searching for campers. We have a '63 mini camper trailer (13 ft) that I love (still need to paint the exterior, but are having so much fun with it), but my husband just might be addicted to the "camper hunt". If we had a big barn, I'd be in trouble. He is always searching MI, but Ohio isn't too far away. If we see one in decent shape, I'll forward the info onto you.

add me to the list! We have a big 5th wheel that I'm trying to sell, so I can find a smaller one. We've spotted a small one that an ole fella has for sale, and I would love to have it, just gotta sell this one first! I really enjoy camping, even tent camping!

Michele, I'm soooo jealous! That sounds exactly what I want to do! I've found a few campers, but they are sooooo expensive. I don't want to spend the rest of my days making payments on one. I do have a good sense of carpentry and generally fixing things up. I just know out in some obscure barn somewhere is an old "Shasta Daisy" waiting for me. I just gotta find her!

We love glamping in our vintage Aristocrat and even take our "aristocat" Beau with us. He even likes it now. Our is a work in progress and being 2 women alone (me & my sister) we are not into the back woods kind of camping as we are aware of our vulnerability but we have a great time and are always looking for vintage "cherry themed" items. We cook on a grill or over the fire most nights but still insist on nice bedding, good coffee and the occasional artisan cheese.
Just let go and do what you love. Our kids thought we were nuts at first but now they brag about us and out adventures. And if you love to travel, there is no more frugal way to get out and see this great country.
Next year we hope to go to BBB and who knowa where else......

Ditto to what MaryJane said.
Debbie to make things easier most of us "Sisters" use those large plastic containers to store our camp gear in as well as clothes & food supplies. And they stack easy. I pully my Serro Scotty and my Aljo with my Jeep Grand Cherokee and it is a 'straight 6 cyl....and it tows well.
You can dress your trailer up or down, what ever suits your needs...but let me tell you camping in a vintage trailer is the best!

Ahhhh...having a vintage trailer for some of us, is a dream come true! It's like a little hobby and tons of fun. I tow mine with my truck and fill it with a BBQ, etc. Once you set up camp, it is a breeze! No more fussing for me. Keeping your little trailer neat and tidy is part of the fun! I giggle everytime I enter it! May your dreams come true Debbie!

While the camping experience if different for everyone, here is something to think about. We camp a lot in Idaho. Mainly we boat camp deep, DEEP into the woods of North Idaho in a place that I swear to you looks and feels just like you are living On Golden Pond. When you are doing that, you have to be very selective on what you take. My husband and I have everything from tents, to an OLD tent trailer that was used by car clubs in the 50's (which is still awesome!), a nice pull behind Aljo trailer, and now a bus! The bus is like one of those smaller buses that you see at a casino or used for small transit areas. By far we love the bus the best. It has tons of room to put the tents and BBQ in and the very best part about it - I don't have near as much prep work or clean up after the trip. I have one tote for food, another for all kitchen/game needs, our tent and sleeping bags. I found with my trailer I was always worried about keeping it clean and packed "correctly." We have five children, so being obsessive about cleaning (as I am) is not the best thing for me. In the bus, I don't worry about them messing up the floor with their dirty shoes or simply being children. My husband asked me the other day if I ever missed our trailer and I said "No way!" Another cool thing about the bus, it is WAY less expensive than a camper and it has a diesel engine that gets fairly good milage.
I hope you find what you are looking for, but keep in mind that a trailer(for some people) is just like taking your house with you. For me, that only served to stress me out. When I want to camp, I want to go away where there are no power lines, no houses or any other thing made by man. I want only the stars when I look up, only the smell of the pine trees, and the only sound to be the birds, the wind, and my campfire. I am always shocked at how many people miss the intention of the camping experience because they bring their whole lives with them in their trailer. Since you said Idaho, i thought I would let you know how diverse Idaho can be. It took me years to find all of this out and now when I go through the campsite where mothers are in their trailers washing EVERYONE'S dishes and prepping for the next meal, I smile and am glad that I truly found a way to enjoy camping in Idaho.

I would love to be able to find a trailer. My daughter had a great idea though. Make the tent in MJ magazine and take the granddaughters with us. HMMMM!!!! I am thinking! I have to admit though, it would be way cool with a trailer. Sure hope you find a great buy, and get yours.

Hope you find one soon. We spent several months looking and found a 16ft camper that was in good shape, just ugly.
We have been fixing it up while we are camping. We are having tons of fun BBB next year for sure!!!
