Posted - Jul 04 2009 : 10:05:02 PM I heard two of my favorite sounds today. These are really special because one I very seldom ever hear and the other well today was my first time to ever hear it for real.
Complete and total quiet. It has been so long.
And the one that really took the cake-- a group of horses running together. What an amazing sound!

Second I have a new puppy and he loves to curl up in my neck and just sigh and wimper cuz he is content. I love it.![](icons/icon_smile_big.gif)

Posted - Jul 16 2009 : 3:49:02 PM At our farm, I heard crickets (or tree frogs?) chirp LOUDLY. I was amazed to hear how they stayed in unison with each other, creating a sound like the constant beat of a drum. When they got "off beat," they'd immediately get back on again. Very cool to hear. |

Posted - Jul 16 2009 : 2:00:41 PM The best sound is the chickens clucking good night to each other. Some one luaghed at me the other day when I told them they do that, but it is the coolest sound. I try to get out there every night just to listen to them, it does not last very long. The second best sound would have to be a thunderstorm and a good book. |

Posted - Jul 16 2009 : 08:57:16 AM What I love to hear are the crickets at night, and the sound of the owls that live in some of the woods behind our cabin. When we lived in the city, we could never Evah leave our windows open, 'cause of break-ins around the city. One open window an' ya never know what'd happen..
So since we moved down here, when it gets warm enuf in Spring, those windows are open at night...and the comforting thing I like best is the sound of the wind in the woods...ahhh...

Posted - Jul 16 2009 : 08:47:35 AM The most amazing sound for me is hearing my daughter's belly laugh. When she really gets going you can't help but laugh with her. It amazes me that such a big sound comes from such a small girl. And then there is hearing my hubby snoring. Yeah I know snoring...but I've heard it for over 8 years now. I love it. Shhhh just don't tell him. LOL Jessie |

Posted - Jul 15 2009 : 04:43:44 AM I love the sound of horses early in the morning munching on grass or hay when no one is awake yet. The most incredible was being in the middle of the Idaho mountains and hearing elk bugle all around you when they are about twenty yards away it gives me goose bumps![](icons/icon_smile_big.gif)

Posted - Jul 07 2009 : 09:15:30 AM Most recently....I was at the state fair...early in the morning..in the goat barn..no other humans around. I heard a cough. I didn't see anyone. I heard another cough. No one there. It was a goat coughing. Sounded like another person. Amazing! It's those little sounds we could go through our whole life and never hear.
I have actually heard the corn grow. That was pretty amazing also.

Posted - Jul 07 2009 : 04:51:07 AM The sound of a train at night. I have always thought it a bit romantic. Now, in my new home, I am lucky to hear it a few times a day.
Crickets at twilight always make me smile.

Posted - Jul 06 2009 : 5:23:53 PM My favorite sound is that very first cry of a newborn. I am expecting my 4rth and I think every single day about that sound. I trained to be a midwife and believe me....it NEVER gets old to hear that little cry! I also love the sound of the creek that flows around our part of the farm.

Posted - Jul 06 2009 : 5:11:55 PM Oh,my gosh - what a great thing to think about! I love what everyone listed, dittos! I love the sound of running hooves and rain on my roof too; and birds and crickets in the evening also. But the other night, I happened to be in the woods, and heard a great horned owl...... It hardly made a noise as it flew, but then it hooted.....................wow. |

Posted - Jul 06 2009 : 4:37:00 PM A Missippii Kite is a bird the size of a large hawk, and it has a quite impressive wing span. It makes a sound I cannot describe....almost like a sailor whistling at a pretty girl. But a lovely sound. They nest high in tall pines.

Posted - Jul 06 2009 : 4:34:28 PM I love the sound of my 2yo GS laughing when I go to put him down and I hold him close to me and tell him he's stuck, then I bounce trying to get him off and he just laughs and laughs. He does the same thing when my finger gets stuck in his arm pit. He's so much fun.

Posted - Jul 06 2009 : 2:25:07 PM I just love these ansers. Some of the things you all have mentioned I probably wouldn't have thought of before. Isn't it funny how we can sometimes take things for granted.
I heard some somewhat surprising noises last night around my house. Kinda surprising cause we live in town. Maybe they have always been here and I just never really paid attention before. Crickets chirping- shouldn't be surprised because my youngest catches them all the time. She caught 11 of them last summer and kept them in her bug cage for a few nights in the house until her older sister and brother either convinced or threatened her into getting rid of them. Guess they didn't much like sleeping with chirping crickets. LOL And a bullfrog. This one just really has me puzzled. But he was a really nice addition to the crickets.
Some of my other favorites: My Hallie's laugh- it's super contagious The strum of a guitar Max the bunny doing his lil bunny growl at Ruby Soft breeze through the trees
