Ok, the house we are looking at to rent needs some work. It needs to be painted and cleaned. We suggested to the owners that we will paint and clean for $350 off our first month's rent. I think that is a VERY fair price, considering I was a paint contractor with my father and they couldn't even by the supplies for that price. We agreed to their approval of colors, which would be neutrals. The house is not that dirty but they would have to have it cleaned because that is frankly grosse to make someone rent a dirty home. They are in Oklahoma, the house is in Ten. so they are using a rental brokerage place. The guy doing the back and forth is cool as water and the husband agreed to it but the wife is not budging, saying WE are being too demanding. WHAT?? Excuse me??? I am doing YOU a favor and I am being demanding? People usually jump to rent to military because if they screw up the place, they just go to their command and it can really ruin one's career. We have recommendation not only for us but for Chloe as well. Our credit is fantastic and I think all ya'll know me and Scott by now. I understand hesitation, but this has been a 2 week battle back and forth. Ummm.wouldn't you rather have someone in there to help pay your mortgage and who is willing to add value to your property, especially when no one else is interested in the property??? Past places we have lived in, we have installed a 7 ft dog fence, replaced lighting, left behind a/c units, storage shed and portable dishwasher. We did get some money for these things but the owner's were able to increase their rent by $300 thanks to us. She knows ALL of this and is still being what I consider rude at this point. It now stands that we will not paint at all but it must be cleaned before we move in. She is hedging. I am about done with it all. Having worked with my parents at landlords, behavior like that is typical of a bad landlord. I refuse to bow down or compromise anymore. Scott knows me well and he can hear in my voice that I am so done with this chick. In 2 weeks, I will be in Kentucky, whether I will be renting a house or sleeping at the campground.

Heather, this may be a blessing in disguise. They were fools not to jump at your offer. Cherry is right, we'll probably see them on Judge Judy someday. LOL
God had a reason for this lady to dig her heels in, He definitely didn't want you there.
You'll find a place, I am sure, have faith. If you end up RV'ing it over the summer, at least you have the right attitude-it's an adventure!!!

Heather, that sounded like a REALLY bad landlady/lord situation. You can do better and an RV adventure all summer sounds just delightful!

I am very excited about the RV thing, Scott is not. If I was up there, I could convince him. Wouldn't it be lovely to take 5 minutes to clean your home and then go to the pool all day??? I figure why not do it now, when Charlie is young and we can. I so would sell everything we have left to do it. Things REALLY don't matter to me. I figure my clothes, dishes, pictures, laptop, bikes, toys and board games...what else do I need???

I agree with the girls, Heather! And the renter guy! This woman is a fool to not rent to someone who will improve the home. You know how Karma is...she'll end up renting to someone who'll trash the place and then we'll see them on Judge Judy!

RVing sounds like a most wonderful adventure! And you can take your time and find something that perfectly suits you. Whatever you decide to do, I know you'll come out on top with that enthusiastic spirit of yours!

Heather, I think you would be miserable renting from someone that hard to get along with that won't event talk to you on the phone. You will find the right place, and you will know it because it will work out without all kinds of bad feelings.

And the lady told the renter guy that we were being too needy and he told her she was a fool NOT to rent to us. Whatever!!! Their loss. And Scott is right, IF he deploys, does he want to leave me with someone who won't help me when I need it???

We will!! We are thinking of renting a townhome for a month or 2 and then I can do the leg work and find us something. And if we want to RV, that gives us time, not to rush. We have downsized enough that even if we had to put some furniture in storage or sell it, it wouldn't be that difficult. Remember, I lived on 2 aircraft carriers and Scott lived on a another small ship, where you literally have 3 feet of space and a rack to sleep in. We can do it and more importantly, we will be together. : )

Keep faith, you and Scott will find something wonderful (and clean!)!
A rental feels like home when the landlords or management co are friendly. I like your idea of RVing, if you have access to one, so you can BE there, ya know? Huh, just random thoughts...

The thing is, Scott is there. He has been to the house twice, all while having to take time off from work and live up to my standards, and yes, I have standards. I have health and a child to consider. I am not living in a dump. I told him we will put our stuff in storage and camp for the summer if I have too.

Oh Heather! That is so hard! We had similar experiences moving to Billings from Idaho. It is so hard to rent from long distance. Most of the places around here said "We won't rent sight unseen" And how exactly am I supposed to just pop over for a viewing when I was over 500 miles away?! Yeesh! Well if this place doesn't work out I know you will find somewhere!

Oh...and she refuses to call us so we can talk...it must all be done by email or the brokerage guy calling them. Like I have time to stalk this lady or something!!!
