Posted - Jun 22 2009 : 09:18:25 AM It has been so hot here that I left my slightly damp mop in the garage, hanging on its hooks. It dripped a little puddle water and I walked out a hour later and it was like 1000's upon 1000's of ants in there...I had to get the spray and spray down Charlie's bike, all the containers with our stuff ready to move...oh my god...now I have to check out each box to make sure they didn't get into my stuff. It is so grosse!!! I came in and took a break and now I have to take a shower...I feel like the are crawling all over me...icky!!!

Posted - Jun 22 2009 : 09:42:29 AM ants do not like spearmint. my mom uses to put spearmint gum wrappers in corners. Or you could try the oil on cotton balls.

Posted - Jun 22 2009 : 09:33:52 AM Heide, thank you so much for that recipe! The hubs uses that smelly poison that I detest! He said he'd use something else if it worked as well as the smelly stuff and now I am armed and ready! And I'm not suprised about the Splenda! Stupid food companies!
Heather, I'm sorry you've got more work to do now, girl! I can tell you've been a busy little bee here lately! You might also try sprinkling a line of cinnamon across the entrance of the garage.

Posted - Jun 22 2009 : 09:28:34 AM It is very dry here. I am going to mop down the garage with borax and water and see what happens. I am already tired and now I have to move all this stuff. Even more of a reason to downsize my amount of stuff!!!

Posted - Jun 22 2009 : 09:23:00 AM I have had this issue for a while and have tried a ton of remedies. Finally I have a fool proof way. . .
Splenda (it's original intention was a pesticide) Cornmeal (ants cant digest it) Borax (Safe Boric Acid)
Mix it up and set it out. . . They carry it away and never return.

Posted - Jun 22 2009 : 09:22:34 AM Eww! Gross! I wonder if they were just looking for any sort of moisture? Try mopping with a little bit of borax next time. Then if they do drink the water they will die.
