Right now, mine smells like the strawberries in my dehydrator! I had not even thought about it making my house smell so great. Just an added bonus I guess.

When you walk in my house you can almost always smell laundry detergent because you walk in through the laundry room and with two little boys and a farmer husband, I am always washing something. And with our little house, anywhere you go you can smell what I am cooking! Hopefully that isn't too bad of a thing....

It seems like everyone's house has a unique smell, even when nothing is going on. You could probably blindfold me and take me to my parents' house or my mother-in-law's and I could tell where we were just by the smell. Funny isn't it? Not really one thing, but a combination of scents that is just so in that place.

Carol- No, I don't have milk cows. I am staying at a friend's ranch and they have milk goats. But I will be going home in a couple of days.

My house smells like coffee mixed with unwashed sheep wool sitting in boxes ready to wash, (my kids say only I can smell the wool - I beg to differ...) rose and rosewood incense with a little nag champa thrown in. It would be nicer if it did smell like herbs or lavender...you should smell it during the lavender harvest while I am weaving lavender wands.

Wow, this thread makes me want to go out and buy all types of fragrant things! My house smells like nothing right now. Which I guess is a good thing since my three year old has a stomach virus...at least it doesn't smell like that!

WOW, Alee I'm totally envious!!!! Thanks for letting me know. Guess words just can't describe that smell..sweet and delicious to me is fresh cut hay! LOL
Oh, are you the gal that has the farm with the milk cows? If so, you would know all about that. Unfortunately I have to buy my milk at the market and unless I glue my nose to the container it doesn't smell up my kitchen. You ARE a lucky girl!

Blessings to you...

Carol- Fresh milk smells sweet and delicious. It's one of the most wonderful smells I can think of. I wish I could make soap and laundry powder that smell like fresh milk!

Right now I just make a batch of soap and so the house smells like a tropical themed drink or something- coconut and a something floral and citrus notes as well. I really like it!

Hey Belle..I'm with you!

And I'm totally impressed with some of the smells at the farmgirls homes! Fresh milk? Can't even imagine what fresh milk smells like..lucky must be the ones that do. Unfortunately today was cabbage....yuck.....yesterday fish......yuck. But all the windows are open and tomorrow hopefully will smell like..horses...LOL! So basically our house smells like...REAL...real to us anyway! I do pick Rosemary and hang it in the kitchen but it has to fight a big battle between the fish and cabbage! Good thing that we don't live next door to each other to find out how our homes really smell (to others)!! LOL

Good topic!

My house smells like gardenias. My daughters have a bush outside their apartment and they know I love gardenias, so when I left today to come home they filled my stuff with the flowers the picked off the bush. Love my kids and gardenias.

I'm drying ropes of Italian Oregano, Thyme and Rosemary one of those wooden clothes-drying racks in the kitchen. It "smells up" the whole house. Fabulous!

I just emptied the diaper pail from the little guy I babysit. So I'm sure you can guess on that. Then I wrangled a lamb back into the pasture that has recently learned to go through the fence, so I smell like wet lamb a bit, and then my favorite smell of the morning... fresh brewed coffee.

My house ususally smells like what ever I am cooking. Right now it smells like outdoor grill T-bone steaks. I am boiling the bones from our cookout last night. Going to take the little bit of left over meat, a couple of left over baked potato, maybe the left over greenbeans and a little carrot and add it to the pot after the bones have boiled and removed. It makes wonderful steak soup.

My favorite smell is the motorhome, it has leather furniture. But it soon smells like what ever I am cooking.

Strawberries!
My daughter and I picked 82 pounds yesterday and the dehydrator is going full blast. More loads of jam today will make it smell even more wonderful.

Sometimes wish I could replicate that herby smell you get when you first walk into Whole Foods or Earth Fare. Spices, herbs and food on the fresh salad bar.

Our house smells like herbs, herbs and more herbs. Not any one kind.
I don't even smell it any more, but people comment on it all the time.

Our house smells like brand new apartment (so that "wonderful" new carpet smell. But beyond that, clean.

You guys crack me up!
I know what you mean, Toni, about being able to tell where you are by the scent. I would know I was in Grandma's house by the scent (for those of you thinking apple pie and lavender, forget it...more like old cheese and boiled cabbage), and the other day my office smelled just like the vestibule at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church!

Yea, even pig poo smells worse than rhino!

Ours smells like lavender most of the time or sage. I burn white sage after running the vacuum

Other times, just a clean no-smell. Just what I want.

And we even have a dog!

Dawn you crack me up!

Mine smells like Red Currant (just got through cleaning) and bread baking, because I am baking bread for my honey :) Oh and alfalfa blowing in the window from the breeze.

funny! Mine smells like cow crap because I desperately need to wash hubby's barn clothes. NOTHING gets that stink out! Better than pig poo I suppose....

HAND MADE SOAP, SOAP AND MORE SOAP....with a hint of Rosemary...my two year old plant I have in a clay pot in the kitchen has discovered it is spring and she has taken off in all directions. I love the smell of Rosemary!

Mine smells like just slightly-burned pita breads coming out of the oven and wet dirt - I'm baking and we're irrigating the farm right now. It's really pleasant - I can hear the sound of water running over rocks in dirt ditches under the front walkway, and the little boys trudge in in their boots EVERY TIME, spreading mud over the kitchen floor, and EVERY TIME, I have to remind them that BOOTS STAY IN THE MUDROOM!!!!

XOXO, Libbie
