On my way to the farm last Monday, I stopped at Lowe's and bought three cans of paint, to the tune of $80.00 total. When I got to the farm, I parked my car under a tree near the house and took the paint cans out of the truck and went into the trailer. I got busy planting something I bought at Lowe's(the markdown plant cart became my best pal last week while I was on vacation - LOL) and left the cans sitting under the tree. After a while, I noticed clouds and heard distant thunder. Pretty soon, the thunder and clouds were over me, so I jumped up and ran to roll up the driver's side window on my car. Just to make the dh happy, I decided to move the car out from under the tree. Then the rains/monsoon came. I grabbed one can of paint but left the other two sitting there. When the rain stopped and I went back out to retrieve the cans, this is what I found:

What happened here? My boss says if they were hit by lightning, something would be burned. So did lightning hit the ground and come up under them and KABOOM????? And after spending $80.00, I wasn't going to just let it soak into the ground, no sir! I took my big fat four inch brush, sopped up the primer from the pool and scraped it back into the can. Then put the wood chair I wanted to paint up on the porch and ran up and down to the pool, dipping the brush in and painting, etc.....LOL! I'm a cheap little farmgirl!

You know, Karen, it would be easier to find in a parking lot! :D Being a silver Kia Rio makes it hard to spot!

Yup, I'm grateful my car isn't Boysenberry Jam colored today! :)

Wow, Janice! That's incredible. Thank goodness you moved the car! Good night, you'd have had splotches everywhere.
You should call Lowe's and ask them what they think could have caused that sort of reaction. Weird.

I never heard of that happening. Maybe the powers above didn't like the color. Or any large animals nearby?? They may have taken shelter under the tree and kicked the cans. I would let Lowe's know, They may give you more paint for free or at least a lower price.

Hope all your days are Sunnydays.

No, Amie. They were off to the side and in front of the car. I just backed the car backwards a few feet.

I don't suppose there's any chance you hit them in some way with the car when you were moving it?

In all my years painting, I never saw anything like this. I too would have to say it was the heat, and then the cooling rain but I can't tell you any more. I have had cans pop a bit in the heat but not the entire can, wonder what kind of chemicals are in there...

So......I would think Lowe's should know. There could be a problem with the whole batch. MB

I don't know, Jonni. They really didn't sit there very long at all. And it wasn't that hot outside, either. It just looks like a huge hand just crumpled the can.

I'd call that frugal! But, I'm not sure what the heck happened, unless they just got too darn hot. Maybe they weren't sealed properly and the air combined with heat seeping in allowed the cans to expand and KABOOM????!!!!
