Wow! All that hostility and only one hour from me!
I think she is missing the point. The only message my apron sends is that I don't want to get my cloths dirty (and I love to wear bright colors while protecting those clothes) .
Sheeeesh! I'll have to look her up the next time we head to Lazlo's (our favorite burger and microbrew spot) and gift her with an apron.
Any suggestions? I'm thinking something with a defiant looking woman with the caption, "Yes, I wear aprons....! "

Thanks for sharing the article, disturbing as it is. I love my aprons, all of them, all 360 of them! I wear a different one every day when I cook and I love how they look and transport me back in time. They all hang on pegs in my laundry room and I enjoy wearing the red ones for February, the green ones for March...well you get the picture. I can't help buying them, especially when I find them for 25 cents and 50 cents. The highest I have ever paid was $1.00. They are all vintage and I adore each and every one!!!

Okay - so I actually wear some of my aprons "out." I've lately been making 3-tiered gathered skirts with coordinating harvest aprons and, if I do say so myself, I really feel like I look cute in them, AND, they're practical! I've even make some more "full coverage" versions over the skirts, but there's something so comforing and comfortable about being covered in fabric to me. Maybe it's a little, umm..., neurotic? to be making coordinating apron/skirt outfits, but that means that all I have to buy are undies, turtlenecks, tights, t-shirts and socks!
I have, however, stopped wearing half-aprons now that I'm noticeably "expecting." They just have this strange "balloony" effect!

I love the site with the aprons...that author of that article was clearly not impressed. Not sure I would wear an apron out...doens't seem like if is fufulling it's purpose. I think aprons are personal things that are homey and not really meant to be worn out..just my humble opinion...Probaly more acceptable than the opinions of the lady that wrote that article...haha

Wow guys! Jest jokin. I'd rather stain my aprons than my clothes. Wish I had some of my granny's old aprons - they were like the kind Ethel wore on "I Love Lucy". Gonna make some in a few weeks.

Me, I just wear mine while cooking. I only have one. While visiting my grandma I was all dressed up for Christmas dinner and suddenly needed to handle something in the kitchen. I asked Grandma if she had an apron - she went down into the basement and came up with one that was her mothers! Oh how I would love to have that! I have never seen Grandma in an apron - she hates to cook.
I would never wear one "out" though - I plan to make one for gardening but that's as far as my aprons are going to go! |

That lady does have issues! I love my aprons and wear one almost every day. But it is for practical purposes and I DO things while I'm wearing one. What I have a problem with are the cute little kitschy aprons that sell for $80 that these hip young things wear as a fashion accessory. Get a grip!! If one of those little gals had to actually cook, clean, garden, etc and wore the apron for practical purposes she'd probably have a fit! Sorry to get on my soapbox.
Mine is just a little old fashioned garden where the flowers come together to praise the Lord, and teach all who look upon them to do likewise.

My problem is that I'm afraid to ruin my pretty aprons, which is goofy, cuz if I don't wear them, I just ruin my clothes!! Gotta get over that!

Wow...she does have issues with aprons,huh? I can't imagine hostile feeling about something as wonderful as aprons. I am wearing one right now..most of the time I am (unless I am in bib overalls..don't wear both at the same time..too bulky and redundant) I don't wear mine to town..it is more like my home uniform..and I consider that a good thing.

Oh dear - I guess we all have different memories and thoughts about aprons - she may be thinking "June Cleaver," while I am thinking, "Great-grandmother Sylvester!" I just think they are such a great practical item, as well as a symbol of being proud of being able to do all that women are able to do - from milking cows to making dinner to drying tears to framing houses to all sorts of corporate and creative outlets!
