Posted - May 25 2009 : 2:27:07 PM Do you remember Rebekah's article in the Glamour Camping issue, the one where she went hiking completely unprepared? It had this picture of a curled-up snake:
Well my sister, Dayna, was inspired to make her own version for her son, Brandon, and here it is:
Isn't that cute? I wouldn't mind if I ran across a snake like this one. She made it from paper clay. I think she did amazing work. Take a look at those perfect diamonds!! And this is the sister who says she doesn't craft! "Ha!" I say. You just never know what will pop into your head when you are reading an issue of MaryJane's Farm.

Posted - May 26 2009 : 5:01:38 PM Hi, girls! I read all of your comments to my sister and Dayna says "Thank you very much" for all the snake love. Alee- This is how she made the diamonds. Once the snake was formed, she made tiny rolls of clay and sliced each one into tiny pieces. Then, she formed them into diamon halves, applied them to the snake and brushed them into the clay making a seamless join. She said it took her 8 hours just to do the diamonds and the dots. She then painted the snake a sage color, the inside of the diamonds yet another green, the diamonds prange and the dots yellow. I bet she has at least fourteen hours invested in him. That's what I call a labor of love!

Posted - May 25 2009 : 5:12:45 PM Oh, Dayna will be pleased to know you like her snake!! Jonni- Paper clay comes as a block and is literally clay made from paper fibers. It is easy to work with, soft and pliable. You can mold it and shape it with a brush dipped in water. You can make tons of things with it- small sculptures, beads, jewelery, snakes, anything. You dry it in a slow oven and it can be sanded and painted when done. It's very lovely stuff. :) Alee- I'm not exactly sure. I'll have to ask her!
