Posted - May 20 2009 : 11:12:34 AM I don't have any children, either, so I know how bad it feels to not have kids, and I face that pain and regret everyday. Even so, I think what she did was 100% selfish. No doubt having a baby at that age put tremendous stress on her already-aging body...it was a risky think to do to herself and her child, and now she probably won't even be around to raise the poor thing....

Posted - May 20 2009 : 07:39:44 AM Wow, this has really caught my attention.Just this morning I saw Larry King on the Today show and I thought he is just too old to be much of a father to his young sons.I mean I can't see him running around with them and playing games.
This whole thing has caused me to worry about what we as humans are doing in the name of medical science. When this child graduates from high school, the mother will be in her eighties...yikes, my mother is 83 and she could never handle that.To me this just seems very selfish and wrong on the mother's part.I agree that adoption would have been a smarter choice for this woman.

Posted - May 20 2009 : 07:26:50 AM I think that it is a way to become famous. Now everyone knows who she is. God designed the woman's body to be a marvolus thing and He also knew what he was doing. Women enter menopause for a reason, it is a new phase in their life and also a time when God is telling us that we are too old to give birth! If she wanted a child so bad she would have done this before she was 66 or she would have adopted. Just from the age standpoint alone she is being very selfish. -Elizabeth |

Posted - May 20 2009 : 06:20:39 AM I think she is very selfish to do this. However, I'm also thinking that there is something more in this for her, not the child. I didn't read the link due to time constraints at this moment but this has to be an experiment...a really sick experiment??

Posted - May 20 2009 : 12:29:42 AM I am 51 (soon to be 52) , never had a child unfortunately. But I would NOT like to have one now. I mean, 51 might still be young to me, but when indeed the child is 10 I would be 62 YIKES!! NO WAY JOSË!! IMO this is very selfish. If she can adopt, do so. If she can be a foster parent do so. Wonderful other options for children in need. But not this. YIKES!!

Posted - May 19 2009 : 10:02:05 PM Hey...menopause means pause..STOP with the procreating thing! I look at some of these old geezer guys that are in their 70's and still spawning....? And all for their own ego to say they can still can get it.......well, we know the rest of that sentence! Can't imagine what goes through the minds of the women except EGO. I would not want to be a ten year old child with a 70 or 80 year old parent ...ugggggg!!!! Hope I didn't offend anyone.....! LOL

Posted - May 19 2009 : 7:22:17 PM It will probably go like this: Woman of means had baby, hires nanny. end of story. Ethical - no. Selfish, yes. Insane...probably. I wouldn't consider it at my age and I'm 51. I am so glad I don't have little ones any more. I just don't have the stamina for it that I had when I was younger. |

Posted - May 19 2009 : 4:11:21 PM I heard she never has had children and this is her first one through going to the ukraine and having the procedures over there since U. S, has age limits over here. I guess she had the money and wanted it so she did it. But since she has never had children before she has no idea what to expect. Personally she I think she is being very selfish and just has no clue!!!! It takes a lot to raise a child and she won't be the one around to do it. But who will???

Posted - May 19 2009 : 1:41:31 PM Jenny I am with you. So many lost souls need a home. I can understand the desire to give love to a child but REALLY - I think this is a sign of our times "We Want What We Want NO Matter HOW IT Ends". It is like a spoiled child. Also, just because a man can have a baby late late late in life does not mean that is right either. I would also ask - did you get a phsyic evaluation because she can not be thinking of the child. I just hope that she has plans in place as to who is going to care for the child if her health fails. I wish her all the luck in the world - She is going to need it.

Posted - May 19 2009 : 1:23:04 PM All I can think is YIKES! I know at 50 that I would not want to start with a baby NOW..let alone in 16 more years from now. My 12 year olds keep me hopping enough..thank you very much. And like Diane said..who will be taking care of who in a few years? But...then I do already have children..maybe I would feel different if I didn't. Of course..there is adoption of older kids..that sure would have made more sense for her.

Posted - May 19 2009 : 12:28:04 PM Personally I think she is very selfish. I don't think she considered the child in her decision to get in vitro. I mean, she will be near the end of life expectancy when the child is in H/S. Okay, she's a woman "of means", so why not adopt an older child or several instead of bringing in a new life? It just doesn't make sense to me. I think back to when my DS was born almost 21 years ago and think of all the technology, fads, culture has changed so much in just that relatively short period of time and I can't believe this woman actually considered all those things in her decision.
Again, just my opinion.

Posted - May 19 2009 : 12:23:12 PM I heard a blip on it. Does she have other children? I feel she is being selfish. When her baby is only 13 she will be 79. Who will be taking care of who?

Posted - May 19 2009 : 12:20:49 PM She's not a surrogate, right? I just heard something on tv as I was getting ready to leave this morning. What has motivated her to do this at her age? I sure would'nt have children at that age. Or at my age.
