Oh! I forgot to mention that my kids always enter garden stuff too...zuchinnis or peppers or sometimes pumpkins or corn. They work so hard at the garden with me that they are really proud of what comes out of it.

Jem, My kids do animals, they've done steers, market goats, pet goats, and gardening projects. My daughter didn't have a good outcome on her garden, however she documented everything and her dislike of having to weed and that it was her downfall. Her honesty got her the trophy in that category last year. This year she is doing a chicken project, market goat, pet goat, leather crafting, gardening, and anything else she can finish before fair time.
Really there isn't much of a limit on what can be done, 4-H is there to help the kids learn and grow and document their experiences. If there is something your child wants to do but you don't see it offered, talk to your 4-H extension person and they will probably approve it. They just need to know in advance so they can have a judge for it come fair time.
We love 4-H, my DD is in her 5th year counting cloverbuds, and I'm in my 4th year being a leader.

Oh gosh....my kids did a rock collection, recipe card collection in a decorated box, loom beaded bracelets, quilts, knitted scarves, baked banana bread, made brownies, did a paper mache bowl, felt penny rugs,framed drawings and paintings and posters, crocheted things, woven mug rugs, dream catchers, pajamas, and like Sherone said they entered display posters from school projects...last year on two states and one country. There will be two country ones this year and a Utah timeline too. My daughter will be entering the things she made in her home-ec class and son will enter his shop projects too. They also each entered a hen and this year will have rabbits. There are so many things. You can really get some ideas if you go to the 4H website..they will have a list for fair entries usually. (I think under events and then you go to the list of projects. It is amazing the things they can do.

My son won grand champion with a model of how a light bulb works. My daughter did a poster of the anatomy of a horse and took Reserve Grand. Some of the projects that they do in school can be used for projects. Check with your 4-H educators.

my daughters have done tye-dyed pillowcases, locker hooked table runner, scrapbooks, baked goods, crochet scarfs,Christmas tree ornaments, quilted wall hangings. I'm sure there are others- they have mostly done craft projects.

We have done lots of different fair projects. But the best was when my youngest was in cloverbuds, and he with guidence from his 2 year older brother, made a bird feeder. The judge just loved it cause he did it all himself. Projects like that may not be the prettest, but they really are the best.
