MELODY of By the Bay Soaps!!!

Melody is fairly new to this forum but I think she captures the Farmgirl Spirit that dwells within us all to perfection. Let me tell you why.

Melody read the article about Aria in MaryJanesFarm Feb/March magazine and was compelled to do something she'd never done before. She wrote to MaryJane to tell her how much that article moved her and how much she appreciated the magazine in its entirety. I don't think she expected anything. She simply wanted to put that message 'out there.' MaryJane forwarded her message to me and I wrote to Melody.

Needless to say, we became friends instantly. She is someone I have never met. She is someone who lives way up North in Michigan so the likelihood of ever actually meeting in person is probably quite remote but we have fostered a friendship despite our physical distance. She mentioned that she was a soap-maker and I ordered some immediately. She sent me an array of gorgeous soaps completely free of charge!

One day out of the blue, she sent Aria this gorgeous white and yellow hand-stitched quilt. She told me that she bought it to add to her collection of antique quilts. She told me that the 'original' quilt she bought was a blue tied piece when she noticed a little hole in one of the patches with some yellow peaking through. She decided to go ahead and untie the quilt to discover what was underneath. She sent Aria this impeccable quilt that had been covered and thus preserved for I don't know how many years. It lives now on our living room sofa and is in use every single day.

Both these stories are wonderful metaphors to defining who Melody is, especially in terms of her Farmgirl Spirit. She is someone willing to take a risk and reach out to complete strangers who are only waiting to become friends. She is someone who knows how to look underneath and through the layers that come to define who we are and present to the world. She is someone who patient, considerate and kind beyond measure.

Melody's connection to me is obviously a very personal one but I think who she is and her connection here with all of us is one more example of the depth of the Farmgirl in us all.

It is with great pleasure that I present to you Melody, May FarmGirl of the Month!!
