Hi, all.

There is a CHANCE that I might be heading to Texas for a few days in May. Houston, to be specific. My long time pen pal/friend is coming from Australia to visit and she would LOVE to go to Houston and visit the Space Center. She's saved for particular visit for a long time (her last visit was in 1991) and she's offered to take me and my ten year old daughter with her. How could anyone turn down an offer like that?!?!?

I thought it would be fun to make a friend down there who we could meet. Don't worry, I'm not looking for a place to stay or anything. I'd just like to make a friend and be able to meet.

Quite a combination! A mom and kid from the Inland Northwest and someone from Australia! Visiting Texas! Whodda thunk it!?!?

Catherine!!!!!!

I'm sorry it's taken me so long to reply to you. I was THRILLED to see your posting and have someone so excited about a possible invasion... er, I mean, "visit" (LOL!), from a Yank and friend. I wanted to reply sooner but was working a lot. And when I found time at work to reply, I was using the wrong password (DUH!) to sign in to my account and couldn't get on to reply!

I plan to write you an email separately. I did want you to know how excited I am to have a new friend whom I hope to be meeting in the not too distant future!

Thanks for your gracious response!

Yippee!!! Karin

Karin! Karin! Karin!

It's me.....Catherine...cajungal.....Texas farmgirl.....just 10 minutes from the big airport in Houston!!! I would love to meet y'all for lunch or something. I'll be glad to make up maps and directions for you to all the places you want to visit. And, if you feel safe and okay about it, I'll keep the kids one day or for a few hours...whatever you'd like...and y'all can have a girlie lunch or something. (we homeschool and my kids, girls 10 and 13, would be here to "play")
Oh, there are so many places I want you to visit....restaurants, quilt shops, restaurants, museums, restaurants, the beach, restaurants, nature centers and restaurants!!!! Good food down here.

Note, planning is key because Houston is quite large and can take over an hour to get from one end of town to the other...and that's with good traffic. If y'all are mainly doing the Space Center, then you are on the southwest side of Houston....I-45....Clearlake / Webster area. Lots of fine hotels on that end. You'll be only about 30 minutes from Galveston...nice (brown sand) beaches, Moody Gardens, 1900's homes to tour, sidewalk shopping, boat rides, etc... It's a whole 'nuther vacation...y'all will have to come back!

You're right....a Yank and an Aussie in south Texas....quite a combination....An ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL COMBINATION!!!

Blessings
Catherine
