I wanted to let everyone know what a wonderful time I had this past Saturday meeting a few of my fellow Illinois Farm Girls at the Chicago Botanical Gardens!

The day could not have been more perfect and the company was as well!

Katie and Dawn came bearing gifts. Dawn with some amazing chocolate chip cookies which I have been rationing. I have one left!

And Katie gave me the pretties Lavendar apron! Did you make it Katie?

We walked the entire garden, enjoyed the sunshine and I tried to soak in all the plant knowledge these 2 farm girls had. Wow, do I have a lot to learn!

It was a wonderful day and I send out my heartfelt thanks to Katie & Dawn and hope we can all get together again soon.

Hugs!

Linda

A bog is similar to a swamp. Volo has a floating boardwalk throughout. It's up in Ingleside (IL). Just an idea for an outing if anyone is interested. School is ending for my girls soon, so they'd be in tow for any outing this summer.

I'm sorry I missed out again! (I did end up going to the minute clinic - sinus infection)

Have any of you ever been to Volo Bog? It's a favorite place of ours to visit.

My family loves the garden!!! We're members there & try to go as much as possible. It was the spring festival at my kids school yesterday or I would have loved to have met up with you all. Maybe next time!!! Maybe we can make it a monthly event during the nice weather?

Oh, ladies, I don't know if I'm going to make it. I seem to be having a relapse. My sore throat is back, my neck is hurting and I'm more congested this morning than I was in the past days. I'm going to run to the minute clinic today and rule out strep.

I hope you have a great time.

May 16th looks good for me too Deb. Can anyone else make it next Saturday?

Melody, you will love the August bonsai event. They have the Japanese drummers there and it is quite a festive weekend. A perfect way to spend a birthday!

My son Elliott and I checked out the website and guess where we are going this summer???

The bonsai tree event in August just happens to fall on my birthday August 16th.....I would love to learn how to grow and maintain my very own bonsai tree!

Thanks for posting about the gardens! 'Cause now we are going....

We had such a great time together! And we somehow picked the perfect day -- before the cold wet rains hit our area again.

Linda, the apron is vintage -- found it at a church sale last year, along with many others. Glad you like it.

Dawn, the cookies were a big hit, especially with my husband who adores Ina in a foodie-love kinda way.

Who's up for another CBG visit? What Saturday in May might you be available -- Linda, Deb, Dawn, others?? Let's keep this going!!

Linda, I wrote on Sunday about our meeting in the Gathered Up section:
http://www.maryjanesfarm.org/snitz/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=31430

I had a great time with you and Katie. It was great to finally meet some IL farmgirls! Katie mentioned us trying to meet up in May. Anyone who wants to join us is more then welcome! The more the merrier!

Deb, thanks for mentioning Arbor Day (created by Jay Sterling Morton, founder of the arboretum) is free on Friday. I will be working there on Saturday morning for the members only plant sale. The plant sale for everyone will be on Sunday. They have beautiful trees, shrubs, roses, grasses, herbs, annuals and perennials on sale. The quality is unbelievable! The daffodils are showing off everywhere, especially on the west end at daffodil glade.

Let's try to throw out some dates in May to meet at Chicago Botanic Garden!
