Posted - Apr 20 2009 : 05:17:35 AM Just found out a lifelong friend has beeb diagonsed with kidney cancer!
Yes she'll need prayers for surgery this Wenesday (kidney will be removed)
but what's more distressing is the fact that this lump can be clearly felt, and her primary care dr. is a friend who did not catch this early on.
She had anemia for 2 years.
My mother who is an RN suggested months ago this frind go to the mayo clinic or some other reputable cancer hospital.
Gads what a mess!
I love helping frineds, but especially NOT when it may involve major life decisions/family/my health/house or car!
And b/c this dr. is a friend, the patient more than likely won't sue. I probably wouldn't either but it's still maddning |

Posted - Apr 21 2009 : 4:37:17 PM Thank you ladies.
Dona's surgery went well. Along with the kidney, they also removed an encapsulated tumor, a few lymphnodes and a section of intestine that was close by. Doctors wern't going to tske any chances.
The tumor was crumbly which means cells could easily break off and start growing elsewhere. (metastisise sp. is the technical word)
That's really bad.
Pathology reports come in Friday or Saturday. Results will determine chemo.
i'm relieved SOMEONE decided to jump on this ASAP
That's just too scary and is wy i really don't trust general practicioners. |

Posted - Apr 21 2009 : 03:29:41 AM Dona goes in for surgery today. she is more than ready to get this over with.
As for the dr. not sure what will happen. Any other doctor and regular non-friend may have sued.
He got off lucky this time! |

One of my good friends has a daughter in law, young and healthy who was diagnosed with kidney cancer only because she went in for another pain which was probably her gall bladder. She had surgery and now is OK thank goodness and I wish the same for your friend. This is not the easiest thing to detect! I'm sure the DR feels terrible!!!! |

Posted - Apr 20 2009 : 11:00:41 AM I'm sending lots of hugs and prayers to you and your friend. I understand that this is a very tough time and tough circumstances but the dr. friend should face some kind of discipline. I'm very sorry if I am out of line.
