Posted - Apr 07 2009 : 6:10:14 PM I once posted aboaut a week ago, aboaut my DH not being home now, as I have gotten use to him doing for me, I got lazy..... Well, now he is never home, due to work schedules. So, I have been haveing to do "it" myself,,,wasnt sure if I could or not.. Ladies.you will be proud of me, yesterday, I tilled the garden. Today, I built chicken brooder huts for our 110 broilers that are coming tomorrow...........yyyyyyyiiiipppppppppppeeeeeeeee!, for me...I patted my self on the back. They actually look kind of nice, I used or reused materias that I had here, and did not have to buy anything, but, the light fixtures for the brooders,.........I feel wuite proud of myself, can I allow myself that? So, just "DO IT"!

Posted - Apr 08 2009 : 6:19:03 PM You go girl.. I am very proud of you. My Dh is helpful & around all the time, but I have decided if I want something done in MY TIME FRAME I best just do it myself. He just doesn't get it.. Our two great minds Do not think alike. He will gripe & moan & groan about things I want ( to farmgirl up our home) after task is completed he likes it but oh My getting him to jump in *& start a project . Forget it.. I have learned to pick my battles and slowly I am getting it together..

Posted - Apr 08 2009 : 12:05:17 PM >> Ohh I remember the first time I went outside and tilled up a big 'ol flower bed in the front of our yard!! It was so fun..tiring...made my arms wanna fall off..
But I did it!! -- and when I was at church the next day telling someone about my new flower bed, the lady just looked at me like I'd lost my mind!! "Women aren't supossed to do that!!" -- Whaaa???---
So I salute you for taking the time to share this with us!! --Believe me, when we get our minds set on something, there is No Stopping Us!!
So now I have to go out and plant some sunflowers and hope the freeze will be Ovah and Done before the seeds sprout!!

Posted - Apr 08 2009 : 11:26:40 AM It sure is easy to say "honey, can you...?" And when they're around it's 2nd nature to give it to them but, oh! the satisfaction of saying "I did it myself!" I'm like you, I realy on my husband to do most things but every couple of years (currently) he has to take a job in another state and I'm left to either not get things done or do it myself. One year I gutted and remodeled my bathroom while he was in Alaska. When he got home he even brought people over and showed them what his wife had accomplished! Since he's currently gone I'm wondering if there's a project waiting for me now?
You are not only justified in being proud of what you've accomplished, you need to LOUDLY toot your own horn! You go girl!

Posted - Apr 08 2009 : 07:56:19 AM Good on ya! It's amazing what we can do on our own. It's nice having the man around to do for me, don't get me wrong, but when I can figure out something on my own and do it, I like the feeling of accomplishment!

Posted - Apr 08 2009 : 05:43:59 AM AWESOME! We all have to start somewhere. I too, if faced with a challenging task would just ask JerrBear to do it. Now that he's been working at a dairy farm, he's gone from sun up to 10-11pm at night. So, I'm right there with you! I've been stacking wood, moving furniture (for the gals that are coming to my little farm fest next month), I've been taking care of animals, loading feed, you name it. Thank heavens for the crockpot!! Otherwise, I'm not sure we'd eat! You go girl!

Posted - Apr 07 2009 : 6:18:01 PM Terri, congratulations on your successful job. You have to be feeling really good about getting all that work done. I'll bet DH is glad it's done too. Rototilling the garden is not easy. It's hard on the arms, unless you have one of those tillers that sits behind the riding tractor. I've been digging mine by hand. Have to get the onions in the garden tomorrow and transplant more strawberries and get rid of the rest.
I can remember when my grandmother used to get chicks, in the mail I believe. Anyhow, it was so much fun for me to see those roly poly yellow fuzzy things moving around under the lightbulb. She even had a special house that was used for nothing but the chicks. I can't remember or wasn't there when she had to move them to the hen house. I believe the hen house was split in two and she had them penned there for who knows how long before they were allowed to integrate with the mature hens.
