This book was recommended by Ruth over at SUGAR PIE FARMHOUSE. I don't know how to do links, so you are on your own there. Anyway, I got the book in the mail today. It looks to be a good one. What a great shower gift for a new Bride. I ordered it used on Amazon. I'm going to sit down later and give it a once over. Its a big book, 884 pages. I put a picture on my site. Seems to cover about everything.

If you mean Home Comforts by Cheryl Mendelson, I got the book probably 10 years ago (or so). It is a great source and it's right here in my den for quick reference. Once, a friend noticed it and thought I was strange, but I tend to love reference books equally as well as a good novel. My very favorite type of book is travel essay, and in a way, those are reference books, too. I can't tell you the number of times we have all turned to Home Comforts to figure out a quick answer! It's also a great book to settle in with, like a great, wonderful cookbook...but for the home.

Janice,
My goodness I guess you are more then busy! Can't wait to see new pictures of the house and the trailor. Jack and Dave are fine. They fight over the honey. but for the most part are being good. No secret garden here until may at least. Its been snowing here today. yippes!

I'm weeding in the daylily beds and mulching to try to keep the weeds down some this summer. I put down wet newspaper in a couple of the beds between plants last season and that seems to have helped. I had a weird idea last summer about the larger beds that are in rows. I used a piece of leftover vinyl siding soffit to stand on when it was muddy and it just fit in the space between rows(long and narrow). So I'm going to buy a bunch of pieces and lay them down between rows and see if that keeps the weeds down. I'm hoping to have a bunch of stuff happening in the house in June - heat pumps being installed outside and drywall on the inside. We've ordered more flooring that we're going to install ourselves.

How's your secret garden looking? And how in the world are Jack and Dave? Are they awake yet? Haven't heard a 'peep'out of them in a while.

Nancy...what a wonderful book! I too am ordering it from Amazon. It will come in so handy when I'm teaching my domestic arts classes! Thank you for sharing all your farmgirl wisdom and creativity. Don't know what we'd do without you!

You always find such good books. This one looks to be chock full of useful info. I think I may need a copy myself. Let us know what you think.

Besides finding neat stuff at the thrift, You find neat stuff in your mail box. I usually only find bills and organization's asking for money in mine.
